***OFFICIAL IOWA/ISU WEEK THREAD***

Iowa seems to dwarf ISU in football ticket revenue and doesn't have to discount tickets to "young adults". They offer youth tickets to some of the non con games at $20 or $25 but that's it.

How many other programs offer discounted season tickets for "young adults"? If it was such a great idea, I am sure there are several of them doing it.

What makes you think those same folks will continue to shell out the cash if ISU ever raises their tickets to big boy prices? If they aren't going to, you are stuck in this same rut of selling tickets dirt cheap.

Of course he wouldn't. That's basic business. He has to build a foundation of new ISU faithful that was very small in the 80's and 90's (that would now be big time donors and season ticket holders). Iowa had Hayden Fry and they had the state of Iowa on lock so nearly everyone in the state became Hawk fans in that time frame unless you or your family went to ISU. ISU did nothing to try to counter Iowa during that time. It took for the late 90's for ISU to be competitive in the Cy-Hawk game again and the 2000's for Jamie to come to ISU and begin building the new foundation. There is a reason enrollment has surpassed Iowa. There is a reason the Cyclone Club has been increasing donations each year. There is a reason that ISU has been setting school season ticket records and all of it extends beyond wins and losses because ISU has done nothing in that category in several years. Take off the Hawkeye football blinders and see the entire picture and it makes sense.

Basketball is moot. If you have a good team, a 12,000 seat arena is not hard to fill.

Ok, Georgia Tech and Tenn is over so time for bed. I enjoyed the conversation. It makes rivalry week a lot of fun!

This does not answer any of my questions.

Then why not do it for Michigan? Ohio State? Wisconsin? When CJ played, Kirk put the score of the 2014 game on all the players lockers. Just admit it, the game means as much to Iowa as ISU.

I said he is probably doing it because it is Stanley's first road start.

If his first road start was against any of those teams, their fight song would be playing instead.

So the ISU offense put up 28 against UNI but is going to score 38 against Iowa?

Or will there be more defensive TD's this week?
We really found our rhythm in the 2nd half, that's the offense I expect to see. It's going to get ugly for the hoks.

Did you miss the part where he said "again". Ferentz does it every year against ISU.

It's a rivalry game. Only fringe message board poster disagree with this. Iowa gets over it more quickly than ISU however. This may change, but for now, that's the reality of it. ISU will get over it when they start to develop an instate developmental offensive line.

Makes sense, Rudock was making his first road start back in 2013 and CJB had only started at Purdue in 2014 prior to starting at JTS in 2015.

Lol what?

KF does not like it when people say it's his Super Bowl!
He may not like it, but it's true.
Sorry, Kurt, but you make Farley and UNI jealous of how seriously you take this game. I thought maybe things would change when we dropped Rhoads, but given all the recruiting butthurt coming out of Iowa City, it may be even more important now.

They do it for every team. The players said they got sick and tired of hearing fight songs last year.

Did ISU ever put up beat UNI on the private board in the spring and summer like it did for Iowa?

CMC has rightfully put a lot of emphasis into this game, he said they prepared all summer for it, and that beating their rivals is the top priority.

They literally have video of ISU taking down the beat UNI sign to put up the Iowa one.

His entire quote, "Kind of find it insulting. Any time you are competing, you want to win. Not sure if I have to do some jumping jacks to show that or something, but when we're out there competing, we want to win."

I think it is entirely disingenuous for people to say that Iowa players care about this game more/less than ISU. Perhaps you could say that there are many more players on the ISU side who haven't beaten Iowa and perhaps they would have an increased sense of urgency. Don't know about that.

I go back to the thought, posted somewhere off this site, that this is the game fans hate to lose the most. While both sides are happy to win, the sense of relief is perhaps more pronounced. You just hate the thought of going to work and having to deal with victorious ISU/Iowa fans. I don't think that thought applies to the players.

One bit of motivation for Iowa has been occurring already in the facility. Football staff has been playing the Iowa State fight song in the lockerroomlocker room, and it's something the Hawks don't want to hear much on Saturday.

"I don't really like that, but I guess it's more of a mental thing just getting that hatred for them,” said defensive back Greg Mabin, “because it's more annoying than anything."

Kevonte Martin-Manley agreed.

"I'm not too familiar with too many fight songs, but it's pretty annoying in the locker room.

And it was Beat Iowa all spring and Summer according to the Voice of the Cyclone.

I like that CMC has decided to treat this game like Mac and Rhoads did. Smart move by him, it means a lot to the fanbase to win this game.

Link? I highly doubt that. I listened to the podcast and he didn't say that on there.
