A 5 person class is unlikely to all make it to graduation. If they do, we probably will be pretty damn good with a chance to replace it with a class as good or better.
Yeah I have no problem with a big class with the guys we have. Allows us to be more selective in the future and maybe creates some urgency for good players to commit. It's easy to balance classes with transfers anyway.
The trouble is that we're going to really be screwed when they all go pro in 2 years.
Am I the only one who feels there's a decent chance Conditt might redshirt his freshman year? We'll have 2 experienced 5's with bodies that are ready for the XII, and plenty of depth at the 4 as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he took the year to gain some weight so he's ready for our league. Perhaps he's better than I'm giving him credit for though...
Redshirts are pretty rare in college basketball these days, unless it's academic or injury related. Not saying it can't happen, but seems unlikely.
I think you're right. He's just way too thin to make an impact right away, him and Haliburton both. If he hits the weight room and gains 20lbs like Lard did I think theres a shot he could maybe make his way into a rotation, but right now, redshirting seems like his only option.
I doubt it. From the sound of it, George is a stretch type player (at this point), so he may be able to be used at the 4 as a mismatch type player. Most assessments that I've seen say that he is really versatile, but needs to work on his inside presence. Hard to say how much time he would get, but I doubt that the decision would be anyone's except his own.

Redshirts are rare, but I think he's as good a candidate as any. Kind of depends on how much he develops this next year. If you're not going to see any PT your freshman year anyway, it's not like your potentially giving up a year in the future by redshirting.
Will be tough to beat out Talley, Jacobson, Lard and Solo for minutes. All would be in at least their 3rd year of college ball.
redshirting is dicey because if you decide to transfer you lose a year of eligibility.
You don't really lose anything if you're not in the rotation your freshman year, though. You're playing 3 years whether you transfer or not. You either burn a year playing only in garbage time, or you burn a year as a sit-out transfer.
That’s a fallacy. There’s no functional difference between redshirting and not playing. Let’s say Long transferred this past offseason to a lower program, he would still only play in college for 3 seasons whether he redshirted last year or not. On the other hand, if you redshirt and don’t transfer, you could trade a unproductive freshman year for a very productive 5th year senior season.

Could be a similar type player to Justin Patton who was at Creighton. Came in pretty skinny, redshirted, played one year, and was a lottery pick. I obviously hope George stays for more than one year, but it's an example of a redshirt year being VERY valuable, especially with the front court depth we'll have.
Normally but he is invested in ISU and has a vested interest in getting bigger. If anyone does I can see it be him. He isn't one I see transferring so no need banking the RS. It would probably be smart for him as his NBA stock will be better the thicker he is.
"Invested in ISU" ?? Well yeah, he's gonna be playing here, along with all the other recruits. In today's college basketball, it's basically up to the kid, and kids want to play. Especially when you come in with a couple of good friends.
Just out of curiosity, who was the last player to redshirt for Iowa St, that wasn't academic, injury, or transfer related?
