I think the Big 12 (as it stands right now) has better odds of bringing in Notre Dame than it does convincing Minnesota of leaving the Big 10.

If the Big 12 were to land ND, Pittsburgh, and BYU, and were seeking to expand to 16, perhaps there would be a chance.

Perfect plan! We lure minny out of b10 to b12, then we petition the b10 to replace them! I like it!

Can we stop the post that want to say a Big 10 or SEC school would leave there respective conferences to join the Big 12? Hell throw ND into that as well.
 
If it goes to 4-16 team super conferences, I think we should just start a leftover conference going. The left out teams, and the best of the mid-majors. That can be just as powerful as the Big East is now. Will make about half the money of the other conferences, but we already do that now in the Big 12.

The thing I don't get is that some of these teams are gonna have to have major fall offs in their programs. Nebraska, Iowa, or Michigan could be one of those, I don't think they can all be good at the same time, a couple teams in the SEC are gonna win less games than they used too. Some teams with traditions are not gonna be able to keep up with more competition within their conference. That means more exposure for the tops teams of that 5th conference, and a chance to take over schools in their state. (Ex ISU) A 5th conference with the leftovers would definitely have to be reckoned with, and given a spot in any playoff scenario.

Interesting theory, and maybe not too far off. Except for the part of some teams toppling the team's in the major conferences. Regardless of what happens, they'll always have more money.

Yeah the money will definitely create a competitive disadvantage. But it is already so in our conference. Mid majors can compete with the majors, we have seen it in TCU and BSU. There will always be some team that has the talent to beat the big boys in a one game scenario.

But imagine if we can get good in a 5th conference and draw 55-60K per game, and Iowa goes in the ******* after Ferentz leaves and wins 3 games a year. They wont be selling 70K in season tickets with alot of seasons like that.

TCU- Major city in Texas.

BSU- Can recruit the entire state of California for kids that can't academically or socially make it in the Pac 12.

The only thing ISU currently has to offer is the chance to play in a BCS conference. If we don't land in a major conference we will be recruiting against UNI and Northern Illinois for 2A and 3A high school players.

The issue with this is that everything I've seen has 4 16-team super conferences leaving the NCAA and setting up their own 64 school athletic oversight-thing. Any school that isn't in the 64 would essentially become a division 1-A 1/2 school (between 1-A and 1-AA... or FBS and FCS)
 
After reading many of the posts, it seems to me that Texas is really the issue. They want everything their way, want to share very little and threaten leaving if they do not get their way. Maybe we shoud just let them leave. If we get rid of Texas, and agree to having an equitable format for everyone, ala the Big Ten, maybe we could convince BYU, Boise State, Arkansas, Air Force, New Mexico etc to join for a 12 team conferance. Yes there will be stronger teams than others, but it could work. Oklahoma could still have great chances of winning the conferance so it would be an advantage for them. I know Boise State just changed conferances but they might be convinced especially if they could complete for an automatic qualifying position. The more that everyone gives in to Texas, especially places like Missouri and the Oklahoma schools and Texas Tech the more bold and demanding Texas became. Let them go fight their battles on their own. If we could keep Tech, and Baylor in the conferance then their would still be Texas trips and Texas publicity. What would really be great would be to have the entire conferance agree not to play Texas in any sport, that would increase some of their costs and cause them to travel away from their fan base.. I know this would not happen but sometimes it may be better to let the bully just go play by himself.

I agree. When will that new athletic association join the UFL and play semi-pro ball? Good luck to the lower tier teams in that "league" when they go to pay4play keeping up with the big money programs. Equal TV revenue doesn't mean equal money for each AD, as we can see now.

Won't happen. It is a media dream. Government will lift tax-exempt status immediately AND NCAA will restrict access to the basketball tournament.
