Georgia Tech President said there is no truth to the rumors tonight before the game. Said they are 100% committed to the ACC. I actually believe him.

There may be a move happening, but I don't think Tech is going to the Big 10.

Come on no1 you are better poster than this. What is the GT AD going to say? Ya see ya we are BIG bound? He is avoiding the question, I follow this stuff a lot and IMO they are BIG bound.

I wouldn't be shocked that if GT does go then the B1G has to have 16 lined up and we don't know who it just doesn't make any sense. I also wouldn't be shocked if they are going to 16 within a couple weeks that the SEC knows and they have their 2 schools all lined up as well

Doesn't feel the same as when Maryland was rumored. This seems more "made up".

May end up being true...we'll see.

It was the President, but yes. I put zero weight in the TV announcers knowing anything.

Next week will be interesting.

something is going on but who and where idk. Still with the SEC saying that 14 doesn't work you have to think that both them and the B1G are looking at getting to 16 the B1G more concerned about TV and the SEC about not having any schools from states that already have SEC teams

I would bet all of CW's coupons that GT is NOT going to the Big10. This "smoke" smells like bs.
I agree. This smells fishy, and almost feels forced. I thought the mentions last night on Fox were a bit out of place, almost like the comments were planted. It may end up happening, but it feels more like GT is being used to put pressure on someone else.

Of course they are, but that does not mean they are not themselves an actual target. To anyone that has followed this, the Big 10 (or any conference) needs to use other ACC teams to get to UNC and UVa. Start with the weakest link (Maryland) and then work your way to UNC.

I honestly get that GT is an academic fit for the Big 10, but it's just not a cultural fit. They would be the only southern school playing in a completely northern conference. I know that the Big 10 wants to expand southward, but this is an island GT would be putting themselves on that is even worse than West Virginia is in the Big 12 - unless the Big 10 is going to 20 and they give GT dancing partners. Because with WV, the Big 12 has a lot of room to expand if the final number ends up being 16.

GT would not be on much of an island if UNC and/or UVa goes with. If both, either Duke or FSU (yeah, yeah, not AAU) would further augment the move.

But then you're starting to get into my "Big 10 going to 20" scenario. And if it's Virginia and GT, that's still a pretty big island.

Not really. And if it is UNC?

If you have not noticed, I have been on the Big 10 progressing towards 20 for awhile. This is why I have been such a strong supporter of wishing the Big 12 merged/expanded to having an entire ACC division and reworking our revenue model. Unless a la carte cable emerges, with in 15 years there could be as little as 3 super conferences with their conference networks bundled together so that every cable customer in the nation pays $0.1 to $1 a month to each conference. For ISU's sake, I hope it is 4 conferences.

It could be the start of Sherman's March through the Sourth.
Yep. The Big 10 has been putting out feelers for southern teams since at least 2010. The ACC teams were always thought to be targets, but they needed an "in". They found it in Maryland's debt issues and the conference's internal disagreement on expanding/exit fees/TV contracts. It is now Sherman's march to the sea.

If I was delany, I would not stop until I hit 20, owned the Midwest, east, and half the south. Make two divisions (old Big 10 and ACC+PSU+Rutgers).[/QUOTE]

Since BIG is about research dollars, owning Research Triangle might not be so bad. Football can be a second consideration.

This is also why NC State would be a good get. A lot of displaced alums live out there.
