***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Maybe the Kansas rumor is to throw them off the scent of Missouri and UVA.

If there is any basis to the KU rumor, it just means the Big 10's direct attack at getting who they want from the ACC for 14 and 15 has failed (UNC/UVa too strong willed). Plan B is to get UNC/UVa by getting the SEC and the Big 12 to start the process of destroying the ACC, or at least the threat of doing so to make UNC/UVa blink. Big 10 spreads word that the Big 10 is moving on a school regarded as an SEC target and capitalizing on the myth of current Big 12 instability.

Ideally the SEC and the Big 12 continue their reported gentleman's agreement/cooperation in expansion, giving the Big 12 a better chance to get the ACC schools that make the most sense.

Dallas center grimes is movng to the Little Hawkeye Conference in 2013. Just fyi for everyone. I'm sure it affects us negatively somehow.

ND may be the only school that cannot be bought- the only way they join the Big 10 is if all the major conferences refuse to schedule them. Even then they may try a schedule of Navy, AF, Army, and some MAC teams for a few years.

I just don't see how they would fit into a playoff schedule if we have 4 16-team conferences. Say they win out, having played a strong SOS. Lowest-ranked conference champion misses out on the playoffs?

For any school to leave the Big 12 they give up their TV rights for 10 (years I think). All the school agreed to this after the last round of schools leaving. The money isnt the issue, its the fact that the school will not be on TV for that long. I'm no legal expert but I doubt 16 months after signing a contract a judge will allow a school out of that contract.

True but one school telling the rest that they are ready to leave might cause others to jump ship and take a deal that offers them a guaranteed landing spot. If enough of the schools do this then they can dissolve the GOR correct? What is the number of schools it would take to dissolve the Big 12 and in effect cancel all contractual agreements including the GOR?

Rumor from an Ohio state twitter that Georgia Tech has been approved for membership. I hope the ACC falls fast now and we can get our teams.

If that happens, it's over for the ACC as a relevant conference. That would trigger NC State and Va Tech to the SEC and open FSU, Clemson, Miami and a fourth to the B12.

Not sure what Virginia, UNC, Duke and Wake would do. I could see the B1G just going to 18 and taking UNC, Virginia and Duke. Wake would be screwed in that scenario obviously.

Do you think the Big 12 would stop at 14? Or just take 4 and see what happens?

All of the events of the past two weeks regarding realignment make ND school officials appear to be short-sighted. Did they not think their arrival in the ACC would have this impact? Or did they know and it allows them to be a free agent for a longer period of time but playing the role of "trying" to join a conference? Or do they even care that their arrival in the ACC just might be the tipping point that causes the league to fall apart?

Is it certain it will be four 16 team conferences (I do not see the Pac-12 expanding)? Is it certain there will only be 4 spots in future playoffs?

Whatever is the number of conferences, the Big 10 is the only one that will vote against any formats due only to the allowance of ND to competing for a NC as an independent.

I don't think anything is certain. But if it does go that way I would have to imagine the Pac 12 coming hard after the "powers" of the Big 12 again. That is why the non-powers of the Big 12 have to hope for as much instability in the ACC as possible. Can't let that league get stronger or if the 4-16 thing does happen...the Big 12 won't be a part of it.

This GT thing has some legs.... It may cause some to get cold feet and decide to back out quickly.

Big 10: You hear that UNC and UVa, are you sure your answer is no?

The Big 10 wants UNC an UVa as 15 and 16.

Plan A- ask UNC and UVa out
Plan B- flirt with other ACC schools enough to make UNC and UVa come around
Plan C- flirt with suspected Big 12 and or SEC targets to get them to take other ACC schools, all in order to have UNC an UVa give in (and hope they do not go to SEC or Big 12)
Plan D- take other ACC school(s), scaring the remaining ACC schools that there is nothing left for UNC and UVa to hold on to.

And do what, offer the whole conference? This is not like 2010 or 2011.

I am purely guessing but I personally would stop at 14 because it would give you more cross-divisional games to play. I think that would help the value of the TV contracts, future network, etc. If you add teams from Florida and the Southeast, surely the original teams will want as many games with the costal division as possible and I'm sure they will want to play in Texas as much as possible.

What if the ACC and Big 12 are on equal standing at some point in the realignment shuffle? Doesn't seem like it is at this point...but it could end up being that way (if for some reason ND jumped in with the ACC on a full-time basis). And if the NCAA/TV networks want a 4 league 16 team setup...who is to say that the Big 12 survives? And if we do not survive...it makes sense that the Pac 12 would take some of the Big 12 members. All speculation but one would hope we are looking down the road and positioning ourselves for different scenarios as this all evolves. It isn't over...that is certain.

I see that and agree. I guess I just have the feeling that TV/NCAA envision the 4/16 setup as the likely "ending" point for all of this madness.

They say its a race to 16, I say its a race to 18. Nine teams in each division, there is your 9 conference games. Then the winner of the two divisions play in the championship game. No way do teams like Duke, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse get left out. Just cant happen without litigation and government involvement, no one wants that.

I could certainly see that happening because there will be litigation if it stops at 4/16. Whether the litigation has any strength will be determined upon which schools would be getting left out. Duke will not be left out...no way!
