Have a friend who moved from Ohio to North Rochester in the past 18 months. This is his family's first "real" Minnesota snow storm. He posted a pic on FB of his teenaged daughter standing by a snow drift with the caption "We THOUGHT we got snow in Ohio..."
Damn, that's the biggest crowd in CHA I've ever seen!
I feel for kids who grow up in the south and never get to experience the euphoria of finding out you have a snow day. Nothing like it.
Kids today wont know the feeling of watching channel 8 and waiting for your school to scroll across the bottom
And the devastation when it doesn't.

The NWS forcing reliance on the NBM on local offices is a prime example of higher ups not even trying to understand the difficulties of forecasting in the Western United States due to terrain that is far more complex than the rest of the country. The NBM probably performs significantly better...

For fellow millenials, I personally like the comparison of us watching the school closure ticker on the bottom of the screen during the morning news as if we were watching the NFL draft.
Looks like it’s firing up on the radar right now, I think counted 4-5 tornado warnings already?
We were told that school administrators had a special "password" to use when they called in school closures/late starts to the local radio station. Did they really think a student might try to call the radio station??? Lol (this was happening way before caller ID)
Yes there was a password. Learned that when I worked as news director at small town radio for the first time.
Also, my dad is a retired school superintendent. I remember winter storm very early mornings waking up to hear him talking on the phone to school board members and others about weather and road conditions, to decide whether to cancel school. I also remember him going out and driving some roads to know the conditions himself. This was during pre-dawn hours.
