***Official 2023 Weather Thread***

@FDWxMan can probably shed some light on that one but it might be a case of that particular thing being tracked in that area.
Yeah my guess is maybe they didn't have "Blizzard Warning" in their particular toolbox until then maybe?

I think Des Moines only recently starting using Red Flag Warnings, or one of the Fire Weather products, that back in the day would have just been mentioned in Wind Advisory text.

Bunch of others have been axed and are defunct. Growing up in addition to winter storm there was
Snow Advisory
Blowing Snow Advisory
Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory (i think)
Freezing Rain Advisory (notch below Ice Storm Warning)

They've all been collapsed into just Winter Weather Advisory now.

Friend's car sat outside in Altoona while she worked. She posted the video trope on FB of rolling down her electric window, and then punching the ice out that completely covered the opening.

I think MMSD's outgoing superintendent Jenkins is just trying to get in good graces with a little 'break' but it's the opposite since days are being added. He even screwed that up.

Idk, all surrounding closed too. All our snow days have been busts imo. I wonder if it's bussing. They largely call it the night before vs early AM and I wonder if because the bussing is so tight they can't do delayed start, half day etc. Though no excuse for our daycare going half day. My other theory is they think with a lot of wfh parents that it's not as big of a deal but lordy I'm not a fan.

I think the Madison and close by could have had school today.

Not nearly as much snow as predicted and it's not as icy yet I don't think.
Pretty icy down here. Luckily it's above freezing for now. County is pulling trucks off side roads at 8:00 for 6 hours, only doing interstate and state highways.

This is what I got from the Sups I know. They are flooded with calls and complaints if they push backs and/or cancel in the morning many times. People get mad because they say they have a daycare mess on their hands or little 12 year old Johnny can’t get his own arse out of bed and get ready without mommy cattle prodding him. So they just go the night before with the safe route. Still get calls but they just say they are looking out for the kids safety.
