I don't even necessarily get the metro schools closing (I guess go ahead & err on the side of caution when you have days to use), but a college?? We currently have maybe 2" in NW Johnston. I know it's still coming down, but doesn't seem to be accumulating all that quickly.

Residential colleges like ISU don’t close for days like this, but the majority of DMACC students commute. It’s pretty standard practice for them to cancel along with school districts.

Judging from current radar, my 4-6 for DSM is in some danger of being a bit light, which...

;)

But also might be a bit underdone across the board. Euro ensemble average in DSM at 8 to 9, short range ensemble average 8 to 9. GFS ensemble is the low baller right now in 3 to 5.

I'm probably leaning over on the NWS forecast, and watch area at the moment.

Convection and storms SE could also muck things up and drag it lower, so I can understand a path to lower as well, but that's my first gut impression this afternoon. Seems like some 8 or 9 areas still possible.

50th percentile forecast from WPC has DSM at 6 to 8, so I do feel like we're still a touch low, even though we're probably going over top of NWS DMX for the moment.

I’m guessing the faculty just like the day off, because they could easily just say no in person classes, Thursday’s class is going to be online.

Administration makes the call.
Faculty don’t get input.

The problem with attempting to take a face to face class and trying to meet online is that not all students have the resources at home to support it (internet bandwidth, device, private place to meet), so it’s generally discouraged.

DMACC (Ankeny) has many faculty that commute from all over central Iowa; they don't all live in Ankeny. It does no good to open if you can't get your faculty there.

I was an adjunct there for 19 years; they rarely canceled unless it was bad.

Looks like we have a heavier band coming through north Ankeny right now. I'm....not going out in this to measure how much is on my car roof.

Weather app on my phone is telling me this:

Says at total of 7.2" I guess I go out around 5 or so to start shoveling.

I am in Western Clive and the snow is still coming down. We've had the snow plow come through once so far. With the wind blowing I can't tell for sure but I'd guess we've received at least 4 inches so far. (Which sounds very similar to something my wife might say. )
