First snowflakes in Ames.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Either way, some people are going to complain. In today's sue happy society, I totally get canceling as often as schools do.

For goodness sake, it has nothing to do with that.

The snow is supposed to be heaviest during commute times. A lot of DMACC students drive from their homes. And this is the first time all year things have needed to close in the metro.

You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think liability for students getting to and from school isn't a consideration in whether they cancel.

In fact you essentially said such in your post, although it certainly is less applicable to colleges.

I suppose. But I guess I don’t see it as a bad thing.

I don't even necessarily get the metro schools closing (I guess go ahead & err on the side of caution when you have days to use), but a college?? We currently have maybe 2" in NW Johnston. I know it's still coming down, but doesn't seem to be accumulating all that quickly.

For West Des Moines it's two things. 1.) Bussing is a nightmare. The elementary schools don't even start until 9:05. 2.) WDM had a day to give as we haven't had a snow day yet.

Omaha metro area was in the unknown band to get a dusting to 6-8. Definitely near the higher side of that now.

Des Moines got maybe an inch or two? About to say **** it and go on down to KC this afternoon. Let the road crews do some work before hand.

I'm on the south side of the KC area. We got a glazing of ice here. Main streets seem to be fine, but there are slick spots around the neighborhoods. Overall not bad.
