***Official 2023 Transfer Thread***

Anyone else get tired of the curb the enthusiasm on incoming freshman responses? Our program has had so many solid producing freshmen over the years and very few of them were 5 stars.

We need an alpha dog college player. Freshman just dont do that. We can play them and not make tourney for experience? Older is better in todays college game.

How about someone that has access or some sort of knowledge lets us know then, hence my question of I haven't heard anything... lol
Chris Williams did tease on Sunday's podcast this is a good time to be a premium member.;) He mentioned he was hearing ISU interest with some solid guards. Not so much post players.

Guess we'll just have to be a little more patient until guys start announcing visits.

That would make sense if Ward is staying. Not a lot of PT to advertise there, but lots of opportunities in the guard court.

Not really. It all depends on what your expectations are for the incoming freshman.

My expectations are:
  • Biliew will start and play around 27-30mpg and score around 12ppg/6rpg. He's an elite talent and a Big12 ready body to play the 3 or 4 spots.
  • Momcilovic will come off the bench and play around 20mpg at the 4/5 spots. He'll score around 8ppg. His ceiling is higher if he is able to put on 15-20lbs of muscle in the off-season. He's probably bigger now, but both Rivals and 247 list him at 205lbs & 6'8".
  • Hamilton is a wildcard. He played a high level of competition in HS so should be ready physically. The real question is opportunity based on: portal players ISU signs, how good Jeremiah Williams is as a scorer and Demarion Watson developing a consistent 3 point shot over the summer. If Hamilton can score 5ppg in 10-12 mpg as a frosh, I'd be happy.
  • Fish's minutes are also dependent on if ISU signs a portal post this spring. Already with a frontcourt of Jones, Ward, King, Biliew and Momcilovic his minutes are probably limited as a frosh. I know it's taboo to say, but does he redshirt? Kyle Green has a lot of success redshirting developmental players at UNI.
Not just this class, but I'd rather not put my hopes on the success of next year's team on freshman. I feel more optimistic that ISU will be an NCAA Tournament team next season if they are complimentary players to: King, Williams and Lipsey. Not a slam on the freshman, just means that the players on the current roster have been developed by the coaching staff in the off-season.

Agree, if Ward is staying, that tells me the coaching staff is convinced he can have a similar defensive impact as Osun. With the returning players, portal and recruits, Ward just needs to be a rim-protector & rebounder. He can still get 8-10ppg being our 5th option on offense.

Could easily see Ward and Jones getting about 30mpg at the 5 and then the other 10mpg get split between King, Momcilovic or Biliew based on opponent matchups.

I'd be pretty content with that scenario. Perhaps not as much offensive potential in that spot compared to this last year, but perhaps more potential in other areas of the game (and our firepower should be improving at other positions).
