***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I care about the pennant race but I also care about not messing up one of the top prospects in the system too. He missed nearly a year with injuries and needs the regular AB for development. He has a chance to be a part of the big league team next season so calling up a guy who was tearing it up in Iowa at the time just to sit him is poor management of Canario no matter how you spin it. There are other guys at Iowa that could fill that role as bench depth. I'm now strongly against bringing PCA up as long as Iowa is still playing this month if they'd use him the same way. Still have to keep building for 2024 and beyond so if these guys aren't going to play meaningful roles with the big club right now there is no point in having them sit the bench in Chicago and essentially "pause" their development.
He'll be fine, a week of hanging out in a big league clubhouse isn't going to ruin his career.

Jfc, some of you guys need to get a grip, this team is really fun to watch right now and we finally have some home grown pitching talent coming up and all I read on here the last few days is Canario not getting at bats.

Cubs were 10 games under .500 on June 8th. To everyone ********, please go back and read your posts then.

This is fun as **** to watch. Until then STFU

I just posted about our homegrown pitching talent this afternoon LOL. I'm not a negative Nancy and I am thrilled this team is playing well beyond expectations. I also am a realist that there is a much brighter future ahead beyond this season too so I can be critical at times too on how they manage the organization while also competing now.

I'm not one that is critical of Ross. I like the guy and I think some of the criticisms of his decisions are legit I also give him more runway because he's had to work with some really bad rosters the past 2 years and went through a sell off of the roster of guys he won a World Series with. This is the first time he's had some high leverage decisions to make. Next season will be telling if he can manage a good roster and if he's learned from his mistakes. I hope he keeps improving as a manager just like this team has this season.

It's not a bad thing for fans to question or be critical, it's a sign of a fan base that cares and is engaged.

I echo this - I totally get that I ***** a lot about Ross. That being said, it’s not out of hate. It’s out of simply questioning this guys competence at managing a game.

We have many inexplicable losses solely at the hands of poor in-game decision making just within the last month. His saving grace is we’re also winning many games DESPITE similar mistakes.

As for lineups, I don’t 100% blame him for this. I do think the stupid ass computers or FO nerds tell him when Wisdom and Morel should be starting. But ultimately, he’s the face. Morel and Wisdom coming to the plate and the entire fan base knowing an out is coming ultimately is a “him” issue.

To those who struggle with this, I propose you make a list of the 14 position players on the active roster of who you want with the bat in their hands with runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs. I’m assuming all of us can agree on the last 3 guys, in any order, yet 2 of those guys, who I would guess wouldn’t be regulars for the Oakland Athletics and not only have ****** bats but ****** gloves to match, are receiving regular playing time.

As I spew about it possibly being the computers, I just find it really weird we again are playing a matchup game with our batters so early in a ******* game.

Wisdom yesterday pinch hits in the 2nd inning for the DH. Pops out. Gets pinch hit for the next inning.

Wisdom today starts, flies out, is pinch hit for his next at bat for matchup purposes.

I’ve seen stuff like this for pitchers (Kepler is the worst) but don’t think I’ve ever seen batter decisions made so early.

Pinch hitting twice in the same game for your DH means you are not putting your best option there IMO.

That pop out was 101. He just missed it.

I think the 3 DH game wasn't going to be a Tauchman start but they threw an opener. He gave wisdom a shot knowing he had Morel available. I don't geek enough to know the differences between what Wisdom does better then Morel and vice versa. But I do know Morel crushes mistakes and I'm glad he got 3 ABs.

There isn’t anything to know other than swing path, yes, swing path, is why Morel and Wisdom play against lefties and not your true best players. Because…swing path.

And like I said above, I think that’s a Rossy being forced move, not necessarily him on his own, but it’s pretty ******* stupid

So then I question why he hit over Morel in the 2nd inning for the pop out.

You got 6 guys on the bench and 33% of them are being used to pinch hit for the DH. It’s the most ass backwards thing of all time.

Here’s the upcoming plan for the week

- Cubs are going to sweep the Diamondbacks despite some questionable decisions

- me and my gang are going to nitpick everything about those decisions

- force and his gang are going to tell us to get over the bad decisions because we won

- we’re all gonna cyber hug. Clothes on, of course.

Also you were all wrong last week. The correct answer was trade the farm for Alonso, sign Belli, sign Ohtani to DH, sign Snell, sign Yoshi, and for *****, get Mario.

That's good but just want to be clear. I ***** about Rossy when he pisses me off. I just don't have a need to blame him for every decision that doesn't work out.

My background so you understand I've seen a lot of bad baseball from the northsiders. I was 10 when I saw my first game at Wrigley. (It was the week Elvis died) With age I've learned to take a step back before I go off the handle.

Something we can all agree on is the cajones on Nick Madrigal, right?

Knew if he wanted a job, he’d have to take his below average arm and figure it out at third base. Dude has played less than half of the teams games at third yet is 5th in the league at defensive runs saved.

He is about as far from a traditional third basemen as you can get, but damnit I love Nick Madrigal.

Yet another trade that Jed won...

The Darvish trade is still iffy but other than that he's been nails:
Ben Brown for a David Robertson Rental
Wesneski for a borderline reliever
Alcantara for a Rizzo rental
Canario (and Kilian) for a Bryant rental
PCA for the broken corpse of Jayy Baez

Passion isn’t enough to earn you a major league job, but man, I respect how much this kid just loves the game. You can see how much he wants it. He knows he’s never gonna be the star and has accepted that his role is to just make something happen, any little thing. He has heart and those are the guys you want to see rewarded.
