***Official 2022 World Cup Thread***

Canada result was surprising honestly. But as mentioned above their tactics need to be adjusted at this level as the game unfolds.

Canada placed first in CONCACAF qualifying by frustrating Mexico and the US with a defend-and-counter style. Herdman decides to show up at the WC and go with a Leroy Jenkins approach. I really liked Herdman as a coach coming into the tournament, but I think he got this all wrong.

Or, in other words…

Serbia be like "should we sit back and cruise to a 3-1 win?" "Nah, let's play a crazy high line and let Cameroon's strikers run behind us!"

Honestly just dumb IMO to modify the flag. I don't think you're doing anything meaningful by doing so.

But hearing Iranian officials talk about how we're going against international law and morality, when they are arresting and killing many protestors is just hilarious.

What you're doing is showing the international community that you support the people of Iran in their fight against tyranny. It costs you nothing and it's not like you have a diplomatic relationship with the Iranian regime to hurt anyways.

If I were a soccer hater I wouldn’t go with the “there’s not enough scoring” angle. I would go with the “coaches can get cards” angle.

Cards for coaches is awesome, it's interesting to me how in football the refs will allow themselves to just be berated by coaches all game long and do nothing.

Is that any different than Fran's technical fouls and ejections?

I think it’s more the physical act of showing a the red to a coach that makes it different. I just hate refs. Just let the coach get it out as you move on towards the tunnel.

It was especially hilarious in the South Korea game because the game was over.

Ecuador/Senegal should be a fun one to decide who moves on.

As far as the later games, let's get weird today. If the US beats Iran and Wales beats England, the table flips and both teams move on.
