***Official 2022 World Cup Thread***

I guess I don’t understand how much leverage Qatar has here. Compared to what I assume is a multi million dollar deal with Anheuser.
I actually think Qatar has more of the leverage here because they have the police and security forces. If Qatar says "no alcohol in the stadiums," what is FIFA going to do? They can't move the world cup at this point.

I think it would be incredibly dumb for Qatar to do it, but they have the leverage here

While I do agree that FIFA is in a really tough spot, if they decide that moving the tournament to another venue is cheaper than the breach of contract lawsuit from sponsors, they could still move it to somewhere else like the UK or US who already have most of the infrastructure needed in the summer window.
I don’t think they would do it but if I was at FIFA I’d threaten Qatar with it.

In three days though? You’d basically have to push it back to the summer and that would probably be cutting it close

That's what I was thinking, Qatar is on the brink of pulling off a heist, are they really going to blow that over some beer, I'd call their bluff.

If there was a place I was planning to throw the world's biggest party Qatar would have been low on the list.

It's amazing what rampant corruption at the top of an organization will lead to. What a **** show. Hopefully they can actually get the matches in without a problem.

I saw some early allegations of Qatari individuals trying to bribe players from Ecuador to lose already.

Let FIFA get sued into oblivion by Bud. I'd imagine FIFA is figuring out pretty quick they've made their bed here with some pretty scary people and that they don't have their typical sway.

It would be hard to tell if they were bribed or not. They suck. They will get hammered in group play.
