Kind of surprising, as they played well in the Gold Cup last summer. Of course, Ecuador is better than most of the competition they faced in that tournament.
Even though they took away that first goal I think it rattled them right from the start. They are usually more put together. Plus home team pressure.
Qatar's also racking up yellows real quick. Although based on this it won't really matter because they won't be getting out of the group stage

Teams that win their first match advance out of group play 84% of the time. Qatar was the first host nation to lose their first game.

I did the same right after the anthems. As dumb as it sounds, you could tell the energy during the intros and anthems favored Ecuador. I've made/lost bets on dumber logic but that one was easy!
