***Official 2022 World Cup Thread***

Croatia-Belgium was a case of one team (Croatia) just wanting it more than the other. Croatia for about 85 minutes played to get the W but just couldn’t score the goal - and for about 85 minutes there was no sense of urgency from Belgium to score, even knowing a draw would be the death of them, as if a goal was just going to come to them. And they had their opportunities, but failed to slam the ball in every time they had the chance.

Belgium looked out of it the whole cup. Every once in awhile De Bruyne or Hazard would do their thing and create a chance but as a team there just wasn't much going on.

international football is a young man's game. It's good to have a few of those older experienced guys but they can't be your whole team.

Group E Final games at 1 PM CT
Costa Rica vs Germany
Spain vs Japan

Costa Rica - through with win OR draw + Japan loss OR draw + Spain loss by 14 goals

Germany - through with win + Japan loss/draw (draw depends on total goals for if Germany wins by 1) OR win + Spain loss and gain 8 goals of diff

Spain - through with win OR draw OR draw in other game + don't lose by 14 OR Germany win without gaining 8 goals

Japan - through with win OR draw + draw in other game OR draw + Germany win by only 1 and have more total goals for than Germany

aka this group is a mess

Not worried at all if we have to play Argentina and Messi because that means we will have made it there. If you told anyone at the start of this World Cup cycle this team would bow out in the Quarterfinals of the World Cup we all would have been elated. Just beat the Dutch and see what happens.

that happened with Italy in 1986 (relying too much on their old guards, even calling Paolo Rossi who ended up not playing any single minute), Argentina 1990, Germany 1994 (Lothar Matthaus still wanted to be the "chef"), and Italy 2010
