***Official 2022 Transfer Thread***

Lol slooooow down

What could be the best PG in the Big 12, an all-big 12 SG who averaged 17/game shooting over 43% from 3 and the two time player of the year in the MVC who also happens to be a 40% 3 point shooter.

That would be the #1 backcourt in the Big 12 BY FAR! Pack is likely a a pre season all-American.

Sophomore Hunter = Remy Martin
Junior Pack = Abaji
Senior Green > Braun

KU has the best backcourt in the 2022 final four. 2023 Cyclones would be better (In my (dream) scenario)

Oh it would be an incredible backcourt, I'm not doubting that. I guess if we're throwing out our dream scenarios that's one thing but I like to keep a realistic view on things. I very strongly doubt we will be a player for Pack, and from the sounds of it AJ is 50/50 right now.

Old adage in the NFL, when you have two QBs you have no QBs. That was our situation at center this year. TJ is going to put in every effort to sign a proven productive post. Expecting someone better then Jones as his backup isn't likely. Hopefully our future post is in our 2023 HS class.
I think we are talking 2 different recruiting cycles.

This spring I would expect us to have the following priorities:
  1. Brockington Replacement at CG or SF
  2. Rim Protector at 5 to Replace Conditt
  3. A Sharpshooting Guard to Push Kalscheur & Grill for PT
  4. Post Depth Who Can Push Kunc & Jones for PT. Maybe Carlson is Above His Ability at the P6 Level. But Maybe the Staff Still Thinks He Has Potential to be a Michael Jacobson Type.
We Currently Only have 3 Open Spots- so Carlson is a Fall-Back Need.

Next Fall We Will Likely Have Another Huge Recruiting Class with Kalscheur, Kunc, Grill, Tre King and Enaruna All Playing 4+ Years of College Hoops. Plus, We Could Sign Some 1 Year Portal Guys this Spring.

So, I Would Fully Expect TJ & Staff to Go Hard After HS Post Guys in this Fall's Class. But I Fully Expect TJ to Recruit EVERY Position in Our 2023 HS Class. Long-term TJ is Building Off Hunter, Lipsey, Demarion Watson and Eli King.

Thinking we're going to get a post to transfer in to be a backup is delusional.

Glad I checked to see which board I was on before I responded further.

What would you call Jones last year? I mean, we signed 3 forwards last season while returning Conditt. Did we start 4 posts?

I’m not sure there’s quite the distinction between 4s and 5s going forward. If Enaruna had a better understanding with the staff, would we have played Conditt and Jones much less? I assume so. Maybe not, but slotting guys as 4s and 5s seems archaic

I understand why people say that. But to be a well-rounded team, hopefully a starting lineup should check all the skill set boxes.

The 4&5 positions can be interchangeable but ideally:
  • One of those guys would be a rim protector on defense (5)
  • One of those guys would be a strong paint defender. (5)
  • One of those guys can hit a 3 point shot (4)
  • One of those guys has great low post moves (5)
  • One of those guys can defend perimeter players on switches (4)
  • Be Great if both guys can rebound (4&5)
If one guy can check all the skills- awesome he'd be an All-American. But ideally in combination the 2 posts check all the boxes. IMO it's just easier to use 4/5 to differentiate those skill sets.

Same goes for 2 & 3. The skill sets are very similar in modern basketball- aka scoring off dribble/drive and sink high % of 3 point shots. But ideally one of those guys is also a good assist guy and the other has some length and strong defender to cover the opponents best 3 point shooter.

IMO in message board conversations, it is just easier to use the historical position #'s to indicate different skill-set needs within the roster.

He just randomly goes on rants about CMC and Iowa State. When they talk about living rent free in someone's head, Iowa State seriously does. Also, it's one thing if it's some random fan of a school, but when it's someone with a job like that it looks so unprofessional.
He goes by @lyndal on this board. He outed himself during the Heacock/Notre Dame stuff

He's telling you to slow down because 3/5 of your starting lineup aren't on the roster. Might as well add the #1 ranked high school recruit to it if we're putting together hypothetic starting lineups that will never happen.

That's great and all, but given the scarcity of 5s that you described, you're better off just playing two 4s and conceding on low-block defense. Most teams are doing you a favor if they are trying to exploit the fact you have a 4 defending a back-to-the-basket post. That's assuming they have one, which many teams don't.
