***Official 2021 Vikings***

I agree with that, given hindsight. At the time of the initial signing, my feelings were they were taking a big swing to push them over the top. They were on the cusp and, right or wrong, felt like the right QB could get them there. They went for the biggest QB name available. That blew up in their faces pretty spectacularly and *should* cost them their jobs.

And to your point, we've known this wasn't working for a good 2-3 seasons now. Shouldn't have taken this long.
I still don’t think Kirk is that bad. He’s above average. Puts up good numbers. Who the hell else are we going to get without a major trade that we likely give a first rounder?

Trader Rick's 1st round draft picks are mostly busts:

Christian Darrisaw
Justin Jefferson
Jeff Gladney - BUST
Garrett Bradbury - BUST
Mike Hughes - BUST
Laquon Treadwell - BUST
Trae Waynes - BUST
Anthony Barr
Teddy Bridgewater - BUST
Sharrif Floyd - BUST
Xavier Rhodes
Cordarrelle Patterson
Matt Kalil - BUST?
Harrsison Smith

This in a vacuum means absolutely nothing without seeing other teams successes and failures. GMs by default have WAY more misses than hits. That's why the average career is only a few years.

Additionally, Gladney and Bridgewater aren't busts. Off field issue for Gladney and Bridgewater's leg exploded. Waynes isn't a bust either. He got a second contract....he just can't stay healthy. Bust to me is a talent issue.

I liked the way the recent article in the MSP Star Tribune put it: Kirk is a great passer, but he is not a great QB. Meaning, he puts up the stats that rank him among some of the best in the league. But you need your QB to be so much more than that. To me, it’s pretty clear he’s not a leader of the team and doesn’t really do much to make those around him better.

Now that the Vikings have no chance at making the playoffs Kirk Cousins has been activated from the Covid reserve list. I fully expect him to have his best game of the year. Your entire bank account on Vikings -3.5.

Hughes seems to be doing well elsewhere, which is also a problem. Hell, Treadwell is too, absent anyone else in Jville. The note about Kirk as a passer seems right. He can do the things but can't make them add up to anything important. My dad said that about Teddy - look in his eyes, he aint got it. That's the prob with Kirk, he doesn't either. And as for who is better? Who cares? I'd rather stink worse while trying to get to something better than pay him 40 mil to miss the playoffs.

Daboll's on every list, but his offenses (until the last couple of years) have been south of average. Leftwich might be OK, and I would like to see what Hackett could do w/o Rodgers.

He was the OC Saban brought in after getting pounded by Clemson and turned them into a down field passing battery unit. Developed Josh Allen from a really bad QB to a top 5 player in the league.

His 2021/22 Bills team is 3rd in completed air yards but bottom third of the league in Yards after catch. I think the YAC improves if you give him JJ, Theilen, Osborn, Irv Smith, Dalvin and Kene. Turn these playmakers loose.

Whomever the coach is. He NEEDS to have an o-line guru on the staff. This offense is an average o-line away from being top 5. Even with Kirk

I'd classify them as follows:
Jeff Gladney - BUST - off the field issues ended him, but he was bad when he played. Maybe he would've turned out, maybe not. In the end they got zero out of a first rounder.
Garrett Bradbury - Can't call a guy that's started that much a bust, but you have to get more than this out of a first rounder.
Mike Hughes - Part time starter for KC, so not a bust, but another mistake pick given where he was taken.
Laquon Treadwell - BUST - being WR3 on an absolute garbage team probably means a bust given his position in the draft.
Trae Waynes - OK starter on good defenses. Not a bust. Underwhelming pick given his position in the draft
Anthony Barr - Good pick.
Teddy Bridgewater - Regardless of injury was probably never going to be more than game manager anyway. Too many throws he simply could never make. Why anyone would pick a guy that had such a low ceiling in the first round as a QB makes no sense.
Sharrif Floyd - BUST
Xavier Rhodes - Good starter that ran into availability issues later. The sin of Rick here was signing him to that fat contract when he was already having availability problems and was not playing all that well consistently.
Cordarrelle Patterson - Has turned into an interesting offensive player, but it took a long time for him to be much more than a KO return and gadget guy. Again, not enough out of him given his position in the draft.
Matt Kalil - Probably harsh to call him a bust, but below average player picked at a spot where you should be getting a franchise LT
Harrisson Smith - Obviously a good pick, but I think this last big contract was a bad idea.

How is Floyd a bust? He was a solid DT up and coming then dealt a career ending injury.

They can't run though so isn't that an issue?

Yeah, I didn’t edit Floyd from the original post and missed him. Floyd was a good pick. He would’ve been really good if not for the injury. He was good in his short career.
