Probably, but if he keeps playing well, there’s a chance the Nuggets decline the option next year and try to sign him to a longer deal with more $$.

They got a couple of things going to them. If they extend Simmons now rather than next year. neither him nor Embiid will be on a Rose Rule extension. Also, the luxury tax is going up quite a bit in 2020-2021. Assuming they keep Richardson, they could end up $10-15m over the luxury tax threshold ($143m) which isn’t great but it isn’t terrible.

Edit: Horford’s deal has bonuses so that may not count against the cap.

I can’t believe how fast this is moving this year, I thought a lot of moves would follow Kawhi signing but no one except for maybe Danny Green is waiting on him. Top guys and second tier and lower guys are all flying off the market.
