***Official 2017 Transfer Thread***

There is no way we could take both. I just can't see Prohm putting all of his chips in only to have to fill a butt load of scholly's again in a few years. He will go Juco, Sit out transfer, and a sit 1 play 2. I fully expect us to hold the extra scholarship for 2018, we are in on some pretty big fish but as of right now we will only have one scholarship to fill.

Yeah, I think that's a good point. One thing they could do is redshirt McNeill. I know redshirting is pretty rare, but he'd be a good candidate since he's pretty skinny.

Looking at the transfer list, am I correct in my assumption that every player in college basketball has asked for his release this year?
Almost seems like it.

I like transfer season, but can see where it would be very nerve racking for a mid major school. The biggest negative to all the transfers, is the situation at a school like Rice. They are losing 57 pts per game because of transfers. They went from being a contender in their conference, to near the bottom, and probably set back for a couple years.

It's almost like mid major players have figured out how to use their schools as a stepping stone much like the coaches. Seriously though, I think this is going to become the norm. The selection committee has proven over the last few years that they aren't going to be overly generous with at large bids for mid majors. Kids that excel early at mid major schools are going to jump ship and try to go to a higher level program.

Yeah I agree. The redshirt game in hoops can be a little risky but if the player buys into it it can be pretty rewarding. If it wasn't discussed with the player during the recruiting process then I think you are putting the player in an unfair spot and he could potentially leave the program. I can't even think of the last true redshirt player we had. Anybody come to mind?

Sharron Dorsey-Walker.

I just don't see McNeil red shirting unless there is medical reason. Prohm didn't red shirt Long and it was pretty obvious that it would be extremely unlikely for him to see the court with the guards last year.

Yeah redshirting is really risky. It screws a player if they decide to transfer later or if they have an injury situation like Naz.

We for sure have room for both, and room for two immediate players. It makes a lot of sense for both parties.
As a package deal I don't think it makes sense from either side.

There are rumors they're more willing to split now, but the pg Weathers certainly isn't near the top of the make sense list. Although he's at least decently good, adding a pg that hasn't shown an outside shot to the same class as Wigginton and McNeil when losing Jackson isn't preferable.

Only risky if you'd otherwise be a 8th or 9th man type imo.

For guys like Long that effectively redshirted anyways, he'd be a rs sophomore at the new school before he'd play regardless. It's nice to have for injury but that's a pretty rare case in which you can use a regular redshirt and wouldn't get be awarded a medical.

Transfer go both ways. Some mid major players who are way better then just about everyone in their conference will move up. P5 players who can't cut it at at that level move down and have success.

Just some examples of players that have left here.

Percy Gibson went to Oakland and averaged 11pts and 6 boards. He helped that team to a 23-12 record last season.

SDW also went to Oakland and last year averaged 6pts and 6 rebounds. This year he averaged 13 and 5 in a starting role and shot 37% from 3. 3rd in scoring for his team. Had a career high 28 points in the semi-final game on the Horizon League Tournament where he hit 8-11 on 3s and was 1 bucket away from leading his team to the Big Dance in the Championship game against Youngstown State.

And who was the leader of this year Oakland team? Martez Walker who transferred in from Texas. He scored 18 a game and averaged 4 assists.

So while yes, mid majors lose star players. They also gain guys from the P5 level who turn into stars for them.

If we took the twins we would have 5 soph wing players in '18 right?Lard would be in that class too, that would be a log jam schollie wise. The staff would have its work cut out for it recruiting guards.

I don't think so unless you're defining wing different than I would.

Babb-Sr
Lewis-So
Twins-So
Maybe Long but he may be a guard- Jr

McNeil, Wigginton and whoever else they get are going to be guards. Hell, I'd call Babb a guard. Really, the only true wing right now is Lewis.

I bet he's too good to redshirt, especially if we don't land a JUCO or grad guard. I think he's way better than people are expecting.

Kinda like a Marcus Foster situation?

Yeah, kind of similar. If you look at his offer list there are a lot of really proven coaches offering him a ride. He looks a lot like Donovan Jackson in limited stuff I've seen. Really fast and pretty athletic with the ability to shoot. I think he's the PG in this class and there's another comparison I'd like to make but I think I'll stay away from comparing him to NPOYs until he gets on campus.

My top four wish list (today) are:
1) Juiston
2) Shayok
3) Evans
4) Weathers
First out-- Morrow

If we include Thorpe and Brown, how many of these seven guys have we had a past relationship (recruited) with?

Every time I watch him I wonder why he isn't higher . I don't know if I'd compare him to Foster (other than being undervalued as a recruit), but I don't have a great comparison. Assuming his shot is as good as it seems, the only thing he doesn't have is Big 12 muscle.

Speaking of Foster, his one time KSU backcourt mate is transferring. I know we want a scorer but imo a guy like Nigel Johnson has as much value to our team as Edwards. If we're seemingly content with a Juiston, Young, Lard, Kasongo frontcourt I'd go for Johnson, a wing, and a sitout.

It's Matt A's season to earn his salary.

@ebossihoops. Miami (OH) freshman point guard transfer Michael Weathers tells me that he's heard from Creighton, Tulsa and St. John's so far.

Man, McDermott is getting his share. Watson and Huff were among two of his best transfers this past two seasons.

Sophomore Ed Morrow announced today he is leaving Nebraska. He is likely their best returning player. 6'7" forward.
