Do you think that the Drakes and Coppin States of the world are teeming with 6'9" graduates with the ability to play in the Big12? They just aren't out there. Mississippi got Gielo from Liberty last year, but he's incredibly soft,
Thorne was a great pickup by Illinois but he got hurt, and Pitt picked up a couple of 6'9" stiffs that were good at smaller schools but were bit players in the ACC. These small schools have guards and 6'5" PFs that can play but they really don't have the bigs.
Yep. I've posted this before, but it fits in this thread. Max Bielfeldt would be on the list too, it came from his thread. There's literally only a handful of "bigs" that make a difference.
I counted 12 PFs or Centers that were immediately eligible transfers, that transferred up from a lower mid major, or laterally to another power 5 or notable basketball team.
Notable transfers, some came up on CF last spring:
-Mark Tollefsen San Fran to Arizona- avg. 8 pts and 3 rebs in 25 minutes per
- Mike Thorne Charlotte to Illinois- Injured now, but was 13 and 8 for 8 games
-Tomasz Gielo Liberty to Ole Miss- 9 & 4 at 25 minutes per
-Anton Grady Cleveland St to Wichita St- 7 & 5 @17
-Tyler Harris Providence to Auburn- 14 & 8 @ 28
-Shonn Miller Cornell to UCONN- 13.5 & 5.5 @26.5
-Chris Olivier Eastern Illinois to Oklahoma St- 8.5 & 3 @16.5
