Except that the Bulls are notoriously cheap. They didn't want to pay Butler last year in negotiations and now they will be forced to pay him even more if they want to keep him. They are just stupid

Yeah I think most teams would try to avoid paying $9M for someone to go away, but you're right about the Bulls. It will be interesting to see if they come out and offer Butler the full max right away or try to just match what other teams' can offer instead to save a few million.

I'd go out on a limb and say there's a VERY small chance Jimmy Butler returns to the Bulls. I agree their cheap but if they want Hoiberg as bad as the talking heads are making it sound then 9 mil is chump change.

There's got to be more to it. 9 million isn't squat for an NBA organization.

They can afford it, but shelling out 9 mil to fire a successful coach, hire an unproven one while getting no picks in return would be a PR nightmare. Any regression in results will probably lead to fans calling for Foreman's job.

Wonder if he was lying to the players or what changed in a month...

I cant imagine him actually leaving after him telling some players he'll be back. i also couldnt see him just changing his mind in a months time due to some change when hes already aware he has some possible NBA options.

Everyone can see and smell the smoke, but everyone is very careful about yelling "fire".

And if it was 100% they wouldn't be being so careful. Of course will probably all change once Thibs is gone, then it's a race to be the first one to "break" that story.

I'm not saying he is staying, but he never said anything to squash rumors last year, and ended up not taking any NBA jobs. There's no doubt he's interested. That doesn't mean he is gone though. It also doesn't mean he wont be gone. Making any definitive statements at this point is pretty pointless as they are all guesses.

Incorrect. He squashed the rumors pretty soundly last year when he said this:

“I’d love to end my career here,†Hoiberg said in a phone interview with the Ames Tribune. “I’ve got something special in Ames. My kids get to see their grandparents every day if they want to, and that’s stuff you can’t replace. To look up in the crowd (during games) and there’s my parents, my in-laws, my brother, my sister-in-law, my other brother drives over from Omaha a lot, just to have that family support, you can’t replace that.“I’m very happy here. My kids love it. I’d love to spend the rest of my career here.†- See more at: http://amestrib.com/sports/men-s-basketball-hoiberg-gets-raise-isu#sthash.b0gtayAr.dpuf

It is to the Chicago Bulls and Jerry Reinsdorf. ****** front office in Chicago, never have liked Gar, Paxton was okay, but not a Gar guy. Jerry is a horrible owner who is always looking out for his pocket book.

Yep, no question. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but *gulp* even Calipari came out and gave a blanket statement this week to rub out any thought of him leaving. Excuse me while I go wretch a little for invoking his name.

Well, to be fair, Calipari has played the NBA game already and currently makes more than most NBA coaches. He has 6.5 million reason to make a blanket statement.

What's that squashing? As someone said above... "I'd love" to go home a find a pile of gold bricks in my driveway. Doesn't mean I will.

That isn't squashing jack ****. I would love to end my career in the job I'm in now. That doesn't mean I'm going to not listen to someone offering twice the money.

Fred really doesn't have anything to gain by saying anything either way. Honestly, what if he passes up the Bulls job and Cleveland fires Blatt? Can he say no to that? Fred has played this extremely well. People would rake him over the coals if he said he was staying and then backtracked on his word.

Everyone can see and smell the smoke, but everyone is very careful about yelling "fire".

didn't pollard tweet that he is returning to the tailgate events? why wouldnt there be a statement before he returns? you would think the elephant in the room is now bigger than any event room!

It's odd that no media members will call JP and ask if Fred is leaving. it's like they want to dance around the issue as to not make the athletic department mad. Not sure if that's a product of the media members individually or the small town mentality of needing to get along with everyone.

To be a bit of a Devil's Advocate here Jerry does have 6 NBA championships and a World Series trophy in his collection.

Why worry? We can't control what he wants to do with his life. It's his decision and he doesn't owe us anything. He already have us a gift of excitement and brought back Hilton Magic.

Worrying about this whole deal is like worrying about whether your gf/bf is going to cheat on you. If he decides to leave, we will wish him the best and hope he'll be back again when his NBA career is over.

Flip Saunders said it for him.
