*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Texas (SAMSUBA) Game(Day) Thread ***

Pavs played 9 minutes. Despite hitting 2 lucky shots and netting 6 points he was -5 during his time. If you go back and watch the film that -5 doesn't even begin to illustrate how overmatched he was on tne defensive end.

There was little reason to play Pavs. We got away with it in the first but in the 2nd they were running circles. None of our guards had 4 fouls; if Lipsey sits put Keshon at point. Watson is much better suited, especially with the lead to be on the floor.
It's really sad that I can read the first two sentences of a post and know it's from you. DOnt' you ever get tired ripping into our players? I swear if we won the natty, you'd still be ******** about someone.

Disu got hot but that was compounded with Otz sticking with BRE over Ward. With BRE missing bunny after bunny he had little value on the floor once Disu got hot. Ward is a much better defender, especially a flash defender, and should have been on the floor more given the situation. Only 13 minutes with 3 O boards (5 total), 2 blocks, a steal, and ZERO TOs. Makes zero sense.
ZRF trashes BRE. Drink!!!

Watching it was tough, especially down the stretch. Yiu would have lost it with all of the missed bunnies by the bigs. All were likely dunkable yet they opted for, and missed, the lay ins.

Defense and rebounding were outstanding in the first half. This probably ranked up their with the first half at TCU as rbe best basketball the team has played all year.

I don't fault Hunter for leaving (I do fault him for going 0/8 with no points in a big game, haha). You never know what someone's family/financial situation is like, and you only have a small number of years in a specific phase of your life to make money as an athlete. If you need that bag then go get it, he wasn't going to get that Texas-sized bag here, and who knows how long this NIL gravy train is going to continue or what it will be like even one year from now.

If he had stayed here, would he have developed into an NBA player like Tamin is doing? Maybe, but he didn't, we'll never know. I don't lose any sleep over it, Tamin is better anyway and he wouldn't be as good as he is right now if he was splitting time with Hunter the past two years. Last year for sure, Tamin would not have played and developed nearly as much. So it's a net positive for us. Tyrese wanted a bag, he went and got a bag, and seems content with it. Good for him.

Unrelated (although he's maybe not here on the roster if Hunter is here): Pav's showing tonight supports my theory that he's a fine player, just a little small to get run in the Big 12. When playing against Hornsdown midget backcourt, he could score and be effective, six big points in only nine minutes. Also had four fouls in those nine minutes though...

Pavs will be fine. He just needs to play with confidence and assertiveness on offense like he did against Texas.

ZRF: TJ needs to XY and Z more and player T doesn't add value to the team and is pathetic

Posters: That's kind of a **** thing to say about a player.

ZRF: what was so negative about saying a player doesn't add value and is pathetic?

Posters: Those are negative things and uncalled for. Anyway, again, you also don't know what the coaches base their decisions on.

ZRF: you haven't provided any facts to the discussion.

Posters: you don't know why the coaches make their decisions and you aren't at practice, etc. Yes or no?

ZRF: rinse and repeat the same drivel until someone agrees with me so I can anoint them as an actual basketball fan like me.

I said if he continued playing like he was. He came out the second half and played outstanding. He was, and had been playing like complete dog **** for weeks.
This might give ZRF's posts a run for dumbest analysis of an individual player. No, it's worse. Tamin has obviously been dealing with the shoulder injury, but to describe his play as "complete dog **** for weeks" is idiotic.

Yea, I’m hoping someone will upload to YouTube but I have my doubts
I watched. Mentally, not sure how I made it through the 1st time. The amount of open layups we missed was insane. Rob and Tre had 2 or 3 unbelievable ones. Tamin had one where he hit the bottom side of the rim. Hasan had 2 bunnies that he just needs to load up and dunk

Not sure what Pavs +/- was, but probably everybody’s sucked in the second half.

TJ was playing small, King had foul trouble and Keshon had some foul trouble.

It isn’t like there are line changes. TJ is trying to steal some minutes and spot minute guys like Pavs and Watson are going against Abmas and other starters at times. Sometimes you need minutes from guys that sometimes are DNPs. And you might not quite hold serve. But they needed those minutes due to the foul trouble. If Keshon can’t go full tilt because of foul trouble, then we are in bad shape. So he sat more with the early two fouls.

Cujo was already playing big mins. So to keep going small and with Tres foul trouble, Pavs had to give some minutes, and he hit some shots, got some boards, and gave up some buckets. Pavs and Watson’s job is to be ready to give some minutes if the game, fouls or injury dictate. Part of that job is to optimize King and Gilbert.

He was the only player in the negative foe the game and was -5. Not sure what the breakdown was between halves but I'm pretty sure he was close to a minus 8 to 10 without digging. In 5 to 6 minutes of basketball that's pitiful.

He's simply not good enough to ever warrant playing time unless we have 3 guards fouling out. Even if it means less than optimal rotations I'd play Watson, even Omaha over Pavs. He's beyond physically outmatched and is probably the worst player in the league that sees the floor and by a wide margin.

Makes less than zero sense.

No he won't.

Every time he's seen the floor he's been physically outmatched. He made 2 BS shots and had one nice drive in the lane, where he miraculously got by a defender. Defensively he ***** up our entire defense within 3 seconds of the opposition initiating their half court offense. He's easily screened and can't keep up with his man. The result is him getting burned directly or it necessitating constant rotations.

He's not a Big 12 caliber player and should only leave the bench in garbage time or if we have 3 guards fouled out of a game. He's got a lot of work to do in the offseason to justify getting minutes in league play.

He's terrible. We had a 17 point lead at the half and almost blew it, partly because of him and partly because of our bigs not dunking the ball.

I'm not ripping the player. The kid plays gard and does what he can. If anything I'm ripping Otz for willingly choosing to play someone who's already proven he's physically overmatched in league play.

So you go from 'he needs to transfer' to 'ok we're good' based on two halves?

Have you considered why he's had a rough go of it? Do you really think he should sit out? The ******* leader of the team?
