Notebook: Rhoads mum on QB situation

Umm JB started last year as a RS FR and won us some Big XII games.

JB was third string to begin last season. SR was 3rd string this year too.

Whose to say SR can't repeat last years performance by a RS FR?

Its easy to predict when we are going to run it. If fans know, the D certainly does. And you don't have to run zone read every time you get a first down and the first play of every game. Its a tendency that is easy to predict/stop for the D.

I get really sick of seeing people making these assertions without facts to back them up. What percentage of the time does Iowa State run the zone read after getting a first down? What percentage of the time does Iowa State run the zone read or even rush the ball on the first play of the game? Demonstrate the tendency that is so obvious with some facts.

Here I will get you started. First offensive play of each game for ISU:

Tulsa - PASS incomplete to Horne
Iowa - RUSH White for 3 yards
WIU - PASS complete to Young for 3 yards
TTU - RUSH Johnson for no gain
TCU - PASS incomplete to Brun
KSU - PASS incomplete to Horne
OSU - PASS complete to Bundrage for 35 yards.

Yep, rush on first play of the game 2 of 7 games - 28.6% of the time; sure sounds like "every time" to me.
