North Grand Mall

I visit NG Mall and the outlet mall in Story City. Never been to Jordan Creek.

The 13th St location would've been a disaster, location and infrastructure-wise. Even the jimmied economic numbers couldn't show it'd work.

Y'all are looking back with rose-colored glasses and/or blinders.

And you probably really wanted Roosevelt to open...and "No New Pool"...

I strongly disagree. Don't you see all those potential dollars just passing by Ames and heading to Ankeny? Pretty sure the North Grand Mall was on the outskirts of town when it was built. It was probably fought against back then too.

Well, I live in Roland so I don't care about Roosevelt (road? school?) but I love the new pool! I take the family there and have a blast--it's $6 for us out-of-towners. Worth every cent.

Bucky was going to pay for the infrastructure. To get business owners like Goodman fighting against someone who would have used their own money to pay for the mall is ridiculous.

Also, South Duff (aka Ankeny Wannabe) looks like ***. And it's hell to get through or into many businesses.

Yes, the design of South Duff is not good, I know they are studying and possibly planning some improvements. They need to push forward with them however because before too long most of the properties will be developed and occupied which will limit their options. The grand Ave extension should serve to divert a lot of the highway traffic off of it as well.

It's funny because I was a huge proponent of the new mall, but in hindsight I agree with you. Its in the past now and finally the owners of NGM are doing something. It took the city a lot of pushing to get them to move but they did. Can't say the city doesn't support growth anymore.

As for S. Duff, you may think it looks bad and yes, traffic is a ***** usually, but do you recall what it looked like 5-10 years ago? Besides, traffic has always been bad on S. Duff, there are just a lot more people living here now.

I visit Jordan Creek more than I visit North Grand and my girlfriend lives in Somerset.

Good idea to throw in that you have a "girlfriend" in the same post where you're bragging about how much you go to the mall...don't want anyone getting the wrong picture of you. Not that there's anything wrong with that....

New ISD article that sort of pertains to this discussion, on economic/business development in Ames.

I knew there was quite a bit going on but didn't know there was this much. I would guess the hospital expansion, ABE complex, Webfillings expansion, football facility, athletic complex, golf facility, development at mall, and new car dealership are the big projects helping to make up this total.

They didn't really mix up Tyson Foods and Theisens did they? Please tell me there is a Tyson Foods somewhere in Ames I don't know about.

Even though the City Council shot down the mega-mall on E. 13th St., I have to give them some kudos for threatening the NGM management co. with a lawsuit if the co. didn't resume with its renovation within one or two years. At least that's what I read in the trib about a year ago. I'm sure no progress would have been made had the council not acted even if it was three or four years late, but that is the Ames City Council. I'm surprised the City of Nevada didn't offer Bucky a site off of Hwy 30 for his "Life Style Center." I think Nevada would have benefited greatly from a mall paying city taxes.

Nevada? LOL! Bucky would of laughed for a few hours after that phone call.

IDK, lots of open space to annex next to US 30, access next to a major hwy near a major interstate. I wouldn't take that location so lightly myself. If Nevada made the right offer, I think Bucky would have given some serious attention to a proposal.

I would have to disagree, no way a mega-mall would make it along hwy 30 by Nevada, not enough traffic/people and nothing else to draw people over there.

I'm not dogging Nevada, they have some great things going on there economically for a city their size, but its NEVADA! They could of offered Buckey free land and no property taxes, and it still would never happen.

I think jax should open one large nice scheels type store. I just discovered their "other store" across the parking lot.

Don't even remember the name of the place, but it was right next to the movie theaters and they had the best damn smoothies I've ever had. I never went back to NGM once they went out of business.
