North Grand Mall

Google is your friend. Rue 21 is at Valley West. Forever 21 and Wet Seal are both at Jordan Creek (similar stores).

Like pp said, the clothing store by Fuji is Ayden Lee--a local clothing store. I've heard good things about it from the 30+ crowd but haven't been there myself.

I said something to a friend about Aeropastale closing and she heard the company may be going bankrupt and are closing quite a few retail locations.

Heard Shoe Carnival is coming to the mall, now my wife will have a place to shoe shop in Ames. Kind of a scary thought :wideeyed:

I find it slightly disturbing that we are filling a very dumpy mall with a bunch of low price point stores.

Kohl's- not bad, but I just don't get that store.
Tj Maxx- Cheap crap for low income people or cheap *****
Rue 21- disposable clothing for poor kids
Shoe Carnival- are you ******* kidding me? That place is 10 steps below the boone walmart

It seams odd for a town with such a high avg income. Guess I'll just keep shopping on main st.

Don't think its that bad, they sell name brands. Plus, have you ever been to the Boone walmart? That place is just downright scary, come to think of it Boone is just scary in general. Kohls, TJ Maxx, and shoe carnival are all pretty popular mall stores and I think they will do well in Ames, after all it is a college town (and lets face it many students aren't going to spend a ton of money at high end stores). I'm more of a Main Street guy myself, just prefer the small scale local stores to the big chains I guess (plus Ames has a nice downtown area).

Amazing, there have been several threads on this site about people going to TJ Maxx to buy Iowa State gear.

I'm guessing these stores won't be disappointed by you not shopping in them. I enjoy when people complain about new businesses opening up that aren't good enough for them. These places are creating jobs, paying taxes, and the employees are spending their paychecks in Ames. They bring people into Ames who spend money at not only their stores, but at grocery stores, restaurants and the shops downtown vs. driving down the road to Ankeny or DSM.

I laugh at the people who think Ames should be attracting high end stores into North Grand Mall, it's not going to happen until the mall is thriving. Until North Grand has consistent foot traffic to support high end stores, you have to start somewhere. A thriving mall for Ames must consist of all levels of retail.

Finally, an adult, intelligent response.

Wow, didn't know they sold ISU gear, might have to check it out once it opens.

Also, South Duff (aka Ankeny Wannabe) looks like ***. And it's hell to get through or into many businesses.

Totally disagree on South Duff. It looks like the retail/commercial center of the city, which is exactly how it SHOULD look. Yeah, traffic sucks. But, where else would you expect those places to locate? Also, the Grand extension should help some of the traffic issues. The difference between South Duff now and South Duff five years ago is dramatic.

You can say that South Duff looks like an Ankeny wannabe, but don't the Ames residents deserve ammenities without having to drive 25 miles? Ames has the population to support those businesses. Why turn them away in the name of being 100% unique. Would you have Ames turn away McDonalds or WalMart just because everyone else has one? Ridiculous. Students (and athletes) should have access to all the ammenities that a city the size of Ames can get. How many times have we seen ISU athletes tweet that they were at BWW? I guess that Ames shouldn't have a restaurant like that since it's a franchise and something that Ankeny already has.

Exactly. Its not 'ankeny wannabe' its 'any city with decent amenities' wannabe. Its not what ankeny has that is the issue. Its the stuff ankeny doesn't have.

You're an idiot. Kohl's is a decent store for college age people to not have to go spend Younkers or JC Penney prices to get a pair of nice pants or a decent polo. TJ Maxx is the same quality of stuff I buy at the Nike Store at 1/3 of the cost. Is there some garbage in there? Absolutely, but it's a discount retailer with some very nice clothing and other things (like pots and pans) deeply discounted as opposed to buying from Target.

I know zero about Rue 21 or Shoe Carnival.

You sound like the typical smart growth ******* that is still trying to hold this town back in the 1950s. The sooner your type are gone, the better.

By the way, for being so high class, you sure know a lot about those stores.

Holy materialistic Batman! You remind me of that chick that will see a shirt at Macy's for $100, and the same one at a discount store for $30, and will buy the one at Macy's just so you can say you bought it at Macy's.

I don't claim to be a shopping expert, but I don't see any difference between Kohls/JC Penny/ Younkers/etc.

TJ Max is not cheap crap, its pretty much old crap. TJ Max ISU gear is no different then buying it from a Nike store...the only difference is at TJ Max it is probably more than a year old and sold at a discounted price.

I've never even heard of Rue-21 so I wont comment.

Are you ******* kidding me about Shoe Carnival? Have you ever been to one? Its not even close to a Wal-Mart.

I agree with this guy. I really hate having to fuel up the jet to go to NY just to shop at some decent men's clothing boutiques. :realmad:
