Norm Parker

I hope he is okay and out soon. In fact, I fully expect him to game coaching in the game tomorrow, it's their "superbowl" after all.

Norm will be fine. This isn't something that is rare. He's at the hospital quite a bit for his foot. And I wouldn't expect Norm to go anywhere for a while. It sounds like he has no plans to hang it up. I imagine one reason is because he has no recruiting responsibilities. I heard him say at fanfest one year that he has no reason to retire because his job isn't very strenuous. Then he followed it up saying the coach's cruise was more tiring and draining than the whole season had been. Good ol' Norm.

OK, this is my 1st post, I have lingered here for a long time. I'm a huge Hawkeye football fan and have been a huge Cyclone basketball fan, as you can see I follow the teams that have been succesful. I'm just proud to be from the state of Iowa. I just hate seeing the negative crap from both fan bases regarding both teams but I must say It's nice to see Clone fans giving props to coach Parker especially the night before the big game. Thank you Clone fans and may the best team win tomorrow.

I'm sure the Iowa fans would do the same for Wally, especially if he was one of the main reasons you have had limited success against the other team

Dang, my pirate didn't come up. How do you get those things?

I'm a huge Steeler fan farewayfool, so we have at least one thing in common.

Really hard to dislike Norm. His defenses are fun to watch and his sound bites are always fun.

I would say most Hawk fans seem to like Rhoads too, but we'll see if that changes once he beats them.

It's always easy to like a guy that gets the most out of what he's dealt. Iowa generally is relying on in-state guys on D (especially up front), guys that aren't necessarily highly recruited, and they turn into solid players. In an era of gimmick defenses and extensive game planning, Iowa runs just a handful of plays and does them well. They win by out executing the other team, and ultimately that goes to how well the coaches prepare them. Execution has become a hallmark of Iowa's D, and that credit goes to Parker as much as anyone.
Hopefully at the end of Saturday he'll be able to move on to worrying about why ISU was able to carve them up. I also hope this doesn't become one of the featured story lines that gets brought up every time Iowa is on D, mention once at the start of the game, and let it go.

This shirt says it all, IMO...

that is so true. Norm's strengths are in his game planning, on game day he is very vanilla, and that is why the D is so impressive that they do as good as they do when the opposing team knows exactly what they are going against with very little blitzing.

Norm will be at the game unless he is very sick. He will check out for the game, come across the street, and return after the game - he has done it in the past. You gotta love the guy.

i can't hate on norm, and he has turned out quite a few pro players...for the most part I can't hate on kirk(as most d1 coaches are horrible, i don't think that of kirk even after some things i disagree with).

Don't be so sure, this is the fanbase that made jokes as Hilton was being flooded.

That's why I was attempting to put a sarcasm pirate with my statement. I just don't post enough to know all of the little tricks.

As others have said, you have to respect the man's work. He gets results.

Hey Y'all, I just wanted to thank you for all the kind things said about Norm. I never do this, but I just had to respond. I'm Norm's daughter, Suzy. I was curious about what was on the web about my dad being in the hospital and came across your posts. It made my heart swell a little. Thanks again.

Hello Suzy. How's your dad doing? He is loved by everyone here in the state of Iowa and makes me laugh every time he does an interview.

Tell Norm to heal quick as we need him in Arizona next week.
