Nolan's Oppenheimer

Now I'm confused... so is this movie good or not?

3 hrs is WAY too long IMO. I'm not looking forward to sitting in a theater that long... but I really want to see this.

wear your depends! The movie is more about the conflicts between Oppenheimer and his conscience and others who are jealous of him.

I enjoyed the movie, but being a big fan of WWII movies, I had really high expectations going in.

I guess my disappointment was two-fold. First, the constant time changes throughout the entire movie was distracting and even a bit confusing to me. Just show all the events in chronological order. Second, this was a movie that very much focused on the personal life of Oppenheimer, rather than all of the military considerations that went into dropping the atomic bomb to bring WWII to a quicker end.

This is where I'm at too. Was super stoked but the SF Gate article didn't post on the last page didn't help.

Plan on seeing it sometime Thursday or Friday this week.

Or doing the Barbenheimer on Friday or the weekend.
I liked the movie. I thought it was really well done. If you aren’t a fan of Christopher Nolan or think it’s going to be about the Atomic Bomb/WWII, you won’t think it’s great.

He was actually with many women, including the wives of his friends. It’s part of what made the hearings in the 50s so tantalizing.

He also was such an incel when he was younger he tried to kill multiple people when he was told they were getting married.

Speaking of long movies, I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. I enjoyed the movie, but it seemed interminably long to me. It probably didn't help that I took four grandchildren, ages from 15 down to 6 with me -- two teenagers and two first and second graders, two boys and two girls. The movie was 2 hours and 34 minutes long. It should have been cut by at least 45 minutes IMO.

Good to hear. Big Nolan fan and not really a history guy at all so that won't disappoint me.

Agree with you in Indy I enjoyed it thought it finished the series nicely but it was plenty long

It's a great movie and it's not too long. Never drags and isn't filled with senseless time filler.

I think those who think it's "too long" don't like any movie over two hours. That would be a "you/them" problem and not an Oppenheimer problem. This isn't the Zodiac (which was a senselessly long movie).

I basically think any movie around 3 hours is too long. Somebody needs an editor at that point.

I saw it this afternoon.

Wow. Just wow.

In the thread earlier this summer about Marvel/GOTG 3, I was effusive in my praise for that movie because it checked off all of my personal boxes; 1) It made me think 2) It moved me emotionally 3) It entertained me and 4) I didn't look at my watch one single time.

Oppenheimer checked all of those boxes for me as well, plus while I had to pee for about the last 90 minutes of the movie I stayed put because I didn't want to miss anything.

Just a terrific film around. I have to presume that Cillian Murphy will get nominated for Best Actor, as well he should, but there were a lot of great performances in that movie. Talk about an A-list cast too; Murphy, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Matthew Modine, Remi Malek, Jason Clarke...even 'effin Gary Oldman!

If you haven't seen it yet go ahead and invest the 3 hours it takes to see the movie.
