Sounds like they will only go to 9 conference games, to ensure teams can have 7 home games.
Good for them, working in brand identity myself I have no doubt it's the right decision (and quite rare to see a mistake admitted). Scoring points by 'sticking to your guns' is overrated. The conferences is succeeding financially in spite of that nonsense, not because of it.
Iowa will have the easy division and no doubt get both Maryland and Rutgers as their nondivision games.
I think the chancellors will hold out for a three division set-up, adding the Losers Division to complete the alliteration. Unfortunately the problem will be that the new division will contain all but two teams (Michigan and Ohio State) who will make up the Legends and Leaders.
Yeah. Easy division and all the games are drivable. Iowa really lucked out on this. Makes me even more sad that with Missouri and Nebraska gone we're an isolated outpost of the Big 12.
No way you could have had Nebby and Rutgers in same division with them being close to half a continent away from each other.
East is a meatgrinder. Delaney may have been thinking the West champion will be a nice sacrificial lamb to the East champion and a semi-easy path for East champ to vie for a national championship bid. Then again, going to be tough for anyone in the East to come out unscathed.
At least our hopes of an Outback Bowl in the next few years after 2014 are looking brighter.
I guess maybe switch Wisconsin and Rutgers? Not that it matters consider they actually are going for geography this time...
Honestly, I could care less what system they use to choose who's in what divisions, so long as Wisconsin and Iowa play each other every year.
I'm guessing these will only be temporary anyhow, eventually they will expand again and probably have some sort of POD system. Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa POD wouldn't surprise me down the road.
I think everyone knows that there are know divisional standings but your schedule is based off the division your in. The west teams conference schedule are going to be a joke compared to the teams in the east
Did you even bother to read the rest of the thread? Again, just because the Big 12 scheduled more teams against each other in basketball within the divisions doesn't mean the Big 10 is going to do the same. They haven't so far and there is no indication they are going to in the future.
Even if they did, the division had 3 schools in the NCAA tournament this season. The division could very well be sending 4 teams (Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa) to the NCAA tournament in the next couple of seasons, along with possibly Purdue. Seeing as to how the Big 12 had 5 total NCAA teams this season alone, the division isn't that bad.
Yeah the east is still better, but the Big 10 is completely loaded right now in basketball.

If people predict Iowa to be 4th next year in the B1G...the conference is not completely loaded

So, who is Nebraska going to blame now for having all the power, when they still can't win the Big 10? Holy crap, I'd kill to play in the Big 10 West. No excuse for anyone not skating through that Juggernaught of a division.
The big ten is loaded in basketball except you have the best 4 teams in the east division. Getting half of your conference in the dance isn't a bad percentage.
If there schedule is done based off your division. Iowa could finish 4th. Probably won't actually be the 4th best but there schedule will be incredibly easy and could allow them to finish higher.
The Big Ten does not schedule by divisions. I don't know why people just can't look at the schedule and figure it out.
Plus, it has already been announced that the teams Iowa only played once this year (Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Illinois) they will play twice next year. Their schedule will be much more difficult.
And, Michigan and Michigan State are in their division right now, yet they only played them once. The Big Ten does not schedule by division in basketball. They just don't.
And they won't schedule by div when they go to 14, unless they're going to play a 19 game schedule or just not play everyone all together.
