Nick Saban retiring

Nah not really. The issue is most of the guys are not expected to be drafted high. There are only about 2-3 guys expected to go in the second round or earlier. Most are later round draft picks that have eligibility left. There is also the free covid year that they all have so the senior designation isn’t very accurate.

Totally get how you get to that conclusion though.
Many of those players returned this past year, one of their running backs said so after the game,. I highly doubt many return for a second year and try to repeat.
I will say this free covid year was the worst thing that could have happened to the game, they should have given the seniors at that time another season, but no one else. It's amazing how many 6th year players we have playing, taking away playing time for younger players. Hell, Caitlin Clark at Iowa could come back for another year if she wanted, its beyond crazy.

According to this site they were playing a lot of seniors and kids that will go pro, so ya, I would say they are losing a lot. Please you are really comparing Alabama to the current Nebraska team? Hell they won a national championship after Bryant retired and before Saban was hired. Mike Shula won 10 games there, no, they were never close to what Nebraska has become for over a decade.

I get what that says but almost all of those guys have a COVID year and are mid round projections so them coming back isn't far fetched at all.

Yep, you get it. Why leave to become a 6th round pick if you’re santrisil? Collect NIL money, and live as a god another year to see if you can raise that draft stock. It’s not the NBA where if you stay 4/5 years you must have something fundamentally wrong with your game.

True but then you throw in the fact that Harbough is also looking to leave back to the NFL, and it really doesn't seem likely that a majority of those with the extra year will come back again.

Why not though? I’m asking because why would someone choose to leave Michigan early to not be drafted or to go in the 5th round or later? Why do you give up that experience and the shot at defending the title? If you’re a first or second rounder, obv leave but most of the guys are late round picks.

Cause you hate going to school.

If it is Deboer, I forgot Troy Dannen is now at Washington. BIG hire to make, that's a good job.

Why would they return? Both running backs are going, it makes zero sense for them to return, an NFL running back has a short career as it is, not going to waste another year coming back. You talk like everyone will be making a million or two a year in NIL if they come back, they won't, but if they make an NFL team the minimum salary next season is $795.000, few are going to be making that much in NIL.
Throw in Harbough might leave, many were seniors, they have won a championship, many I am sure are ready to take the next step in their lives, they have settled the unfinished business and are ready to move on.

Maybe you are correct, most will use their covid year, delaying the NFL, Harbough will decide this is where he wants to be and both running backs will want to risk injury and do it again. But how does them coming back help a person that says he is a Michigan State fan?

I'd agree but it's a lot of mid-round guys who may get enough money to come back and try to elevate like Sainristil did, though he didn't have much of a decision.

I'd bet money Edwards comes back. He did not have a good season this year. Hell of a last game, but not a very productive season and he's probably looking at 7 figures to come back. Corum isn't coming back. The real thing about them is it doesn't matter a whole lot because where they lose people are the places they have a bunch of depth and historically the position is just good. They are losing a lot of OL but none of them are elite NFL guys right now. They lose the LBs but have guys behind them. They will return first round guys at DT, CB, possibly edge, TE and Possibly QB.

I'm not saying you're wrong. They could all head out with Harbaugh and next year is probably a 9-3 type season that feels bad because you have likely 4 first rounders on the team. Also, teams with 4 first rounders don't go 9-3 often.

I think DeBoer would be a really good hire and would culturally be pretty in line with Saban's Bama.

The question I'd have though, can he recruit well enough to win in the SEC

I really think you should go back and at what you are calling struggling before Saban. Gene Stallings won a national championship in 1993 a decade after Bryant left. What you are calling struggling, most teams would sign up for in a heartbeat, and it's not like Michigan, Florida and others have not struggled worse after losing a long-time coach.
The problem with winning at a high level is the fans expect to continue to do so, look at Day at OSU, people want him out, and he is winning 12 games a season.

I'm not saying they didn't have good years but they weren't dominant, that's the difference. NIL has completely leveled the playing field for certain teams.

I’d be really shocked if DeBoer isn’t the hire. With Ewers staying at Texas I think that’s the sign Sark is staying. And Lanning said he’s staying.

He’s won everywhere he’s coached. Hard to doubt him at this point. His resume will never be better. And he’s losing a ton of talent on offense at Washington. Time to capitalize on an elite job opportunity.

Kennington Smith just said on Kxno that Saban was interviewing replacement coaches 15 minutes before he met with the team and announced his retirement.
The candidate didn't know about Saban retiring until he got a phone notification.

Courm for sure is, he only didn’t last year because he got hurt. Edwards will be back to take on the lead role. I also didn’t say anything about people making millions in NIL so no idea where that came from. If Harbaugh leaves they just promote Moore so that reason isn’t valid, could affect the incoming class though.

You think guys are so eager to take the next step that they pass up a full ride, plus NIL money while being treated like gods to go undrafted or join the corporate world? That makes zero sense.

I’m an alum of both MSU and Michigan btw.
