Nick Noskowiak

Why didn't anyone try to recruit NN as a fall back? I'm not sure it's so cut and dry either.

Well if Michigan and UNC had previously recruited him maybe they would have. We're basically doing that albeit in a different situation due to a transfer out rather than it being dependent on another HS commitment.

Like I said, your position wouldn't be hard to solidify I went out and gathered Michigan and UNC's scholarship and recruit situation in about 2 minutes. Just off of that small sample size I think you can see that there are a lot of considerations that you aren't taking in to consideration.

You would have to go all the way out to 2016 offers that schools have out to get a clear grasp of the situation and the scenarios that offering NN would make sense in.

For example you might look at MN and see they have one scholly to give and a hole at guard next year, but then you see they have been on top 100 4 star 2016 PG Quentin Goodin for quite awhile and multipe 4 star top 100 SG for 2016. If they try to scholly NN he is going to look and say, "you're going to recruit over me next year why would I go here?". Or if he does take that scholly those 2016 guys are saying, "why are you bringing this guy in you told me that was my spot next year" and you just wasted a few years worth of recruiting time and budget on those guys.

Mods, please merge this with the "Iowa football program headed to bottom" thread. I mean, I know they're not related, but that way we can contain the "you're dumb"...'no, you're dumb' to one thread, hopefully.

I'm Anthony Lee. Sell me on coming to ISU, a place where I for sure won't start. Sell me on that when there are a dozen other teams where I will walk in and start. You people worrying about the elite transfer stuff are ridiculous. There are no obvious holes. Kane had an obvious spot. BDJ had an obvious spot. Royce had about 3 obvious spots. In fact, all of the 1 year transfer guys had great opportunities here and there isn't that this year. Those elite level guys are trying to get into the NBA and when you won't even start, I assume it's hard to see that. Fred can't be as effective using his connections for a guy who he plays 18 minutes a game. Get over it. Next year, we will be in for a bunch of elite level grad transfers due to the fact our lineup will be wide open.

I am absolutely not talking about next year. I have said over and over I'm talking about 16/17, when we will have a ton of open space for guys to play big minutes. Not talking about grad transfers.

Please tell us how you know exactly who has recruited NN and how hard? Who are your all knowledgable inside sources?

I don't know because literally nobody whose job is it to cover recruiting has reported anything about it? Are you saying he was heavily recruited and for some reason nobody knows about it? Even though for all other recruits there are reports all over the place?

Whatever you want to call them they were talented or proven D1 basketball players. And that was coming off of no or minimal success. I just think it's a little silly to say we never got the premium transfers. We definitely did. Kane might be the biggest grad transfer the past few years in CBB. BDJ was a top 5 transfer going into last year. Royce maybe have been damaged goods but if he wanted to he could've gone to Kentucky.

I do agree that our ability seems diminished without Matt.

Premium talent does not mean premium transfer. Biggest get and biggest talent are not the same. Who did we beat out for Kane? He wanted to go to Pitt but luckily that fell through. White only had a few and luckily was afraid to fly, plus we had an "in" with our MSP connections.
We have never went out and got guys we had no previous connection to that most of CBB was also willing to go after. With MA gone and most of CBB wanting transfers, it is no surprise we have not heard of any impact 16-17 transfers.

Again, for the 10th time. I am not talking about why WE are NOW recruiting him. Why was nobody else recruiting him before?

I think it's absolutely absurd to suggest that a player with top 60 talent, downgraded to top 80-100 talent after the whole off the court thing, would be ignored by all top schools when a recruit 10 spots below him is heavily coveted by two top 10 teams and a team that has been in the top 15 or so consistently the past few years.

Teams aren't that picky about top 100 talent. They just aren't, and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here that people keep dismissing that fact.

see my edit for a real life tangible example. I feel like you've been taking crazy pills for awhile and haven't seen the tangled web that CBB recruiting has become over the past 10 years. No team can have everything except UK and KU, everyone else has to take calculated risks and make big decisions and think 2-3 in the future as well as in the present.

Why do you care so strongly about it? Who the F cares. Fred has a damn good reason to recruit him. I'll trust his judgement and not spend 50 replies on a msg board questioning it.

C'mon Rhodehouse, admit you were bored, with nothing planned on a Friday night, so you thought 'hmmm what can I do that will stir up CF, and keep me engaged for a few hours?'

I think you're nit picking here. We knew how good Kane was at the very least, we booted Amardi for him, which I don't think Fred would do lightly.

I think our reputation as Transfer U and our recent success would get us into plenty of doors. I don't doubt Fred's or TJ's connections either. Hell, Washington had maybe the top transfer in the country that we apparently didn't want for personal reasons I guess.

I covered this.

I think if you feel like that is the case you are being naive. Just look at the recruiting thread and look at how long it is between anything coming out that is relevant about a recruit. Do you think that there is nothing going on in between those reports? As big as recruiting has gotten the people that report on it are still dealing with 16-18 year olds in high school, it's amazing that there is as much decorum as there appears to be when it comes to that.

How many teenage girls post on here? Seriously! You're turning a thread about a four star recruit in to an argument about stupid opinions on the reasoning behind things that you have no idea about.

Agree, RH you're not usually a poster most hate on so much. But right now you're coming of as screaming from the top of a soap box "WHY ARE WE EVEN CONSIDERING A RECRUIT NO ONE ELSE WANTED".

Chill, take a step back and let those that know recruit. If you'd like to speculate on how he'd fit in once eligible to play go for it. but the other soap box perching makes you look silly.
