New Uniforms Revealed

Found today at Scheels. Why can’t this just die?

I'm still upset that we had a chance to create or bring back a good tornado logo and we went with a Microsoft clip art design. I wonder how much Iowa State paid someone to create this. I wish there was someone in the reveal meeting that said would've said something to the effect of, "No, that's terrible, start over."

Well said. It is so goddamn embarrassing.

I am quite worried. Went to the bookstore last week and then Scheel's yesterday. The Nike gear right now is total crap, maybe as bad as it has ever been. Makes me wonder if Iowa State is willingly distancing itself from Nike in some weird way. Any time you see a generic 'red' or 'dark red' (or hell, white or black) Nike polo and the I-State patch is clearly sewed on by someone after-market - you know that is a cheap ass low quality. So very disappointing to see so much cheap Nike stuff with poorly quality sewed on logos. Oh, and the black and white polos with the cursive 'Cyclones' - those are not legit quality. Those are generic cheap polos where we sewed on a random cursive 'Cyclones' script. I have not seen anything 'new' from Nike either. Even the Nike hats are getting to be lesser and lesser quality.

And worse yet, the colors and fonts are disjointed as ever. Of course there was tons of Under Armour crap at the bookstore, with all sorts of different shades of red. Champion shirts and sweatpants that look like we stole them from the shelves at Walmart. They are selling generic Jack Trice logo T-Shirts with the word 'Iowa State' at the bottom in a dorky block font. Why!? Why cannot we use the same I-State font everywhere!? Is it really that goddamn hard?

And to clarify - I do not blame Nike - I blame whoever the decision makers are within the Iowa State athletic department that are allowing this to happen. I will puke if we become an Under Armour or Adidas school.

I did my masters at NC State, which is an adidas school. I actually prefer it. The gear is so much more affordable. And NC States new uniforms are really nice. Plus there are less adidas schools, so they can spend more time on a tailored uniform design. We have the most basic of basic Nike FB uniforms (except the swirly font, which sucks by the way(

Can’t really put my finger on why but I would prefer UA over adidas. I feel like adidas unis just look goofy sometimes

I believe bucky is UA. They have nice uniforms.

Honestly, I'd prefer to switch to either. Nike stuff is so basic, at least UA and adidas aren't afraid to try something different.

Our branding is so bad, needs some sort of reboot or fresh start.

It's not just Iowa State stuff that has taken a nose dive from Nike. Since Covid, they have been outsourcing a lot of their collegiate product to a company called something like College Branded Sports. Especially stuff in University Book Stores. Look at the tags at the inside bottom of the shirt and you will see it. They can mass produce them faster than Nike, so that's who they use. I bought an ISU sideline hoodie last season, and it was the worst fitting, stiffest and cheap material I've ever had in a Nike hoodie. I returned it immediately when I received it. The quality sucks and they use different cuts than the old Nike stuff from 5 or so years ago. I believe now only the big schools like Ohio State, Alabama etc. actually get most of their stuff made directly by Nike themselves - everyone else gets this College Branded Sports stuff.

Nike also doesn't make most of the NFL and MLB gear - sideline, jerseys, etc. It's made by Fanatics. Again, look at the tags at the bottom inside and they all have a Fanatics GB address somewhere on them.

I will agree with you though that the Iowa State gear is colored all over the map, and it's frustrating. It shouldn't be that hard to pick ONE color of cardinal and go with it. UA, Adidas, Nike, Champion are all big enough companies that they can match the coloring.
