New Uniforms Revealed

For those of you who don't like the black helmet, this is per request, and I like it anyway. The players would love it, and having a better gold pant would give so many more options, and another option for the black helmet.

I plan on doing another b/c/g, and a c/c/g , c/c/c soon with and without a pant stripe option, soon.

This is a tremendously intimidation look. Black hat and shoes. Do!

I admire your work, as always, but this is the ugliest combo I've ever seen.

I appreciate all your work (and taking requested), but…there’s a whole lot going on with that combo.

The white jersey gold pant combo is a winner. We have seen it in our history as well as in spring practice

Haha. I appreciate your input. I kind of like it, and wanted to see what it might look like. I knew there would be some backlash, folks that wouldn't like it. And that's OK.

It's all in off-season fun.

This is a great find. Some thoughts (unrelated to this thread) on it:
  • Interesting that ISU had the numbers painted on the 5's (5, 15, 25, 35, 45,...) with sideline markers on the 10's. It didn't look like any of the other stadiums in which they played had that.
  • Great to see a #24 (Tim Van Galder) playing QB. Also had an 11 (Eppie Barney) playing split end and a 15 (Les Webster) at RB. The teens at those positions have made a comeback but it is still rare to see a QB without a single digit or teens.
  • Love the '70s Dallas Cowboys shift whenever there was a backfield shift. Tom Landry was old school so I'm sure this was more common when he played. Unlike the Cowboys where only the linemen stood up and reset the line and the FB did it for ISU.
  • Those receivers and that TE #86 (George Maurer?) were tough. They hit that TE across the middle again and again.
  • ISU played 4 home games and 6 road games. Probably contributed to that 2-6-2 record.
  • It was fun trying to figure out which team they were playing based on the uniforms and other clues. I got OU (could see the helmet linked OU), Nebraska, Misery, Okie State, K-State, and Arizona (end zone paint). I never would have guessed Wisky and Colorado State and I missed on KU and Colorado.
  • We take for granted having sprinkled fields today. A lot of the fields were terrible - Clyde Williams looked like it was one of the better ones. I'm pretty sure they were playing on straight dirt in Tucson.

Here is an interesting site. Gives Iowa State football record back to 1892! and some interesting Iowa State trivia.
Does anybody know the history as to why we played Arizona and Colorado State to end the year in 1966? And why New Mexico to end the year in '65, and Arizona in '64?

You're being nice and I appreciate that.

But yes, too much going on with that combination. The gold pants, the white numbers, the black helmet. Mostly the black helmet. You would have to be very selective what you wear that with, I would think. Overall, not the best look and it wouldn't be my favorite combination, by any means.

I agree they are sharp. The road unis are great. But it screams 49ers way more than Iowa State.
But it WAS Iowa State! I get that you don't care for the tanner gold, or the darker gold, and that's good to know. You are a good cross section of Iowa State fans. I do appreciate your view; it affects me.

We have the intermediate sunflower gold, from the '70's. It would be nice if we could bring it back. Keep the present yellow/gold also. Too many people would *itch if we got rid of it, I'm sure.

I'm not complaining. I just think it's humerous how some people love one thing, others hate that same thing. And many people might complain, no matter what we did. That is definitely the nature of uniforms!

They're kind of an anomaly though when you look at our jerseys historically

Also this.

A lot of seasons you can click to from this list, some you have to go to the coach, then you are able to click to the season. For instance you cant click on 1966 season, but if you click on the coach, Stapleton, it then lists his seasons which you can click each for more detail.

I use it a lot as a reference to seasons, coaches, records etc.

Hard to believe the A Department doesn’t have a good color photo of the Stapleton uniforms somewhere
Very true. And yet, no color pics can be found (easily) of the ISU football teams from the '50's to early to mid (even late) '60s. We take color for granted now, not so much back then, even in to the '70's and early '80's.

Even widerightnattylite couldn't find color pics in this article.

I will keep my eyes open but I don't have great confidence in finding anything.
