New Uniforms Revealed

Am I the only one who thinks they weren't trying to make the pants gold and we need to stop viewing them that way?

IMHO they're really obviously trying to emulating the tan football pants of Trice's era. This isn't trying to replace any gold/yellow and we should stop talking about it that way. Besides, if we want the pants to be a different color, go with white to tie into the helmet. I've seen that mocked up and it is SHARP.

I assumed that from the start, main goal to match the pants color roughly to the 1920s look. Not intended to match current/recent gold standard. Maybe a tweak of the tone would look better with the full outfit, but I don't even care that much ... this is supposed to be a tribute one-off and it isn't going to be perfect, it captures the gist.

Also, I think of the previous attempt at a throwback -- maybe designers tried too hard to make a blend of both then-current design and Trice-period authentic, but it didn't do either effectively enough.

See post 6923.

using the grey makes me think they found compromise somewhere between 'historically accurate' and 'do what looks best.' i think ditching the grey for tonally darker stripes could have been nice in order to keep that contrast with the front numbers. in this edit i also changed the facemask and nike swoosh to gold as well as added gold to the sock stripes just to bring that gold color into other parts of the look.

Was just thinking that if they did yellow stripes it would look like french fries.

Not looking like Ronald McDonald should be our top priority.

Shows how much little details like the socks matter. These are really sharp. I don't love the facemask, but I get it.

Excellent work.

I suppose there was motivation to keep the silver Trice striping since that's a major focal element, but yours is more effective subtle application of the theme, even if it doesn't mimic the era. Less "intrusive" and better blend.

I'll reiterate previous posts, I have no major qualms with The Actual Product.

Extremely quick/sloppy adjustment -- something close to this coloring?

Self-response, since I got a Dislike (which is fine, I don't expect everyone/anyone to like it) ... clarifying that it was based on previous comment by SolarGarlic to add a little sunflower to the pants. I tossed it out to see if it's generally what was envisioned.

I’d be in for gold, but not for this tribute throwback. The original is really good and I see no need for modifications or matchy-matchy colors either.

Those look so much better than our current uniforms. That said, I don't think our current unis are bad and only need a couple tweaks to be really solid.

Yup, I had even liked it! But the conversation still seemed way too focused on that "gold" than it had any reason to be.

No, you're not the only one. I may have unintentionally contributed to the conversation going to a different shade of tan or gold. that was not my intention. That's just me thinking ahead and what might be the 'next step' in our uniform evolution. I hope that is adding back a darker shade of gold, whether it be sunflower gold or something similar, to our main uniform in the not too distant future.

So ignore my posts, as I play around with finding that shade of gold. My future posts are not about trying to change the trice unis as they stand now! We have them and can't change them. I can use them as templates though, to further visualize the next step. I think these Trice commemorative unis are very nice, as is. I think they did a really good job.

Nailed the 2.0 version! Although I prefer the gray facemask to a Trice throwback, a minor point.

If they did a new throw back jersey every year or two, I really don't think that would be very expensive for the Athletic Dept. This could be an example for the next time they want to do a Trice throwback.

Walden era throwbacks could be next in line (just need the darker cardinal and gold; if so, they would be great!). Use them for a couple of years, then sell them back to us fans (jerseys)! I don't think they'd lose too much money. Fan interest would be sky-high for throwbacks, they would be fun, and would fit the new Big 12 mode of trying new things, marketing, etc.

Subtle versions of the Trice stripes should be a standard on our uniforms and then use much bolder Trice stripes and retro uniforms for annual Trice anniversary games.
