New Uniforms Revealed

But he did wear tan pants!
Thats pretty much because all/most football pants were tan/brown in that time. Not because it was a color of the school. If you search uniforms from the era, most had the same pants, regardless of the school colors, it is what was available at the time.

Jack Trice died in 1923 (obviously, this is all about the century mark to honor him).

The 1923 NFL season looked like this --

I've sent an email to Iowa State asking about the Ames arched logo. That use to be in the Vintage artwork file they gave to Licensed partners but when I went to look for it today, it is not in the most current one. Hopefully I get an answer.

So to be clear, they have that font and arched Ames trademarked but it isn't in the art file they give. So I'm not sure if we can use it or not.

Not only did everyone wear similar pants (usually tan/brown canvas), but a lot of college teams didn't have the luxury of wearing team colors - many jerseys were simply ordered from a catalog & you usually would order whatever was in stock &/or what may have been affordable for your team

The fact that ISU wore yellow shirts in 1923 may just have been luck of the draw that we were able to get a shirt that was our secondary color - that would have been readily available & affordable

I think this makes the yellow jersey even more significant - that not only did JT only wear this shirt at ISU, but that his team may have been the only team to have ever worn that shirt

That's my disappointment in this year's uniform (& the cheap materials - if that is what we see on the field) - otherwise, it's a great looking "fauxback"

Any lack of fidelity that isn't due to design compromises necessary to fit the form of modern uniforms or for safety (e.g., no more leather helmets, duh) is inherently going to annoy me.

Using cardinal with gray stripes when accuracy to the one and only game that Jack Trice would ever play as a Cyclone would require using gold with gray stripes is quite the missed opportunity. I can tolerate some artistic license for things like the helmet, but deviating from the known facts for no justifiable reason (the color doesn't affect the functionality of the jersey) is never going to sit quite right with me.

Adding the uniform number is fine -- necessary per the rules. But why not the gold jersey Jack wore?

I hope this wasn't Campbell's hatred of our gold striking once again.

It's possible a gold/yellow jersey version was considered, but maybe something about the cardinal simply worked better. (I have no idea, just wondering). If it's gold w/ silver Trice striping, numeral has to be white or cardinal. Perhaps those involved w/ design/approavl weren't pleased with that look compared to what we got. It would be cool to see alternate with the jersey color change only (all other details the same).

I'm assuming the Cardinal just looked better. I'd rather a commemorative uniform that looks good and wildly regarded as good than one that is as accurate as possible but looks bad and took away from the meaning of the uniform m

The tan / vegas gold is cleaner IMO.
I agree. What they did was pretty good, clean, and probably more true to the 'tan' pants they wore back then. It was my first attempt.

I'm working on a shade that is about 77% current 'tan' (the tan for the commemorative game), and 33% of our old sunflower gold. I like the initial look of that 'gold'. I'll post it when I'm done.

Prefer the bottom one.
I'm guessing our Trice uni is very close to the 49er gold. There is a strong vocal percentage of CF that prefers that also.

I prefer the top. It adds just the right amount of yellow/green to the brown/tan. And it is truer to our historic cardinal and gold. I'm not sure where this shade of gold fits in our past. It's probably somewhere between the Stapelton gold and sunflower gold.

I think Stapleton’s cardinal and gold uniforms were the best. To bad many on here never saw them
