I am curious how Iowa State handled that back in the day. Was it a concerted effort to keep black students from playing sports until Jack Trice or was it just that we didn't have any black student athletes? I am hoping the latter but probably a bit of both

Yeah, looks like we took tOSU’s b-stock and put stickers on the helmet. But with as often as our logo changes, removable sticker might be a great idea.

I'm not sure we can. Supposedly, the 49ers bought the uniforms from us and we can't use them again. Or so the legend goes on here. I'll let @67CY explain it.

When I used can’t, I just meant I don’t think someone at ISU doesn’t like the 49er look. I had no idea that the 49s bought the uniforms

I believe it's just an urban legend. From what I've heard, the ISU uniforms during the early 60's were the inspiration for a redesign of the 49ers uniforms, but that was the extent of it.

I never heard "bought". They inquired about the color and used it.
