Here is a picture of our new strength coach. You heard it here first:

Arnold was quite a speciman in his days. Still love the Conan movie despite being a bit corny...

You mean...THE Ah-Nuld? I hear Bo Williams' stiff arm was the only thing that scared him back in the day. And I thought there were 2 Conan movies?

This guy defenetely has a better understanding of physiology than Shep.

"Sometimes we'll push them to their thresholds. Other times, we'll work under those limits."

If you train at 100% everyday your Central Nervous System will enter a state of fatigue. Overtraining will result in increased resting heart rate and your muscles can't recover and repair themselves.

Shep had the guys doing 100% on every lift and every conditioning drill everyday. This hasn't been done since the 70's when nobody knew any better.

"some of the day-to-day exercises to be changed about every month to keep interest levels high and keep a balance between running and lifting. He said his main role is to teach the exercises"
Also something Shep didn't understand. A strength coaches main responsiblity isn't to be best friends with a guy.

Not a Shep fan?

Conan was Great. The one that had Wilt Chamberlain and Grace was outstanding. What great acting. Yet, it was all about the story and not the people.

Three very, very talented individuals. Not sure how they are proof that Texas' S&C program is great.

What is funny about all these S&C threads is it seems a lot like personal preference.

Do you think Texas getting 5-5 star recruits and 20-4 star recruits every year has anything to do with their success? No, impossible. Every coach they have is obviously the best at what they do in the country.

Coach Madden is an omega brother. Sheppard is an omega brother (and not a certified strength & conditioning specialist), Becton is an omega brother. See a trend here?

Chiz hired Shep because he wanted a big guy to be a father figure for African American players from Texas. Not because he thought he was a good s&c coach.

I had wondered similar. Texas is a long ways from Ames and Hene did not have the time to do the similar. That he left for others. He was too busy looking for his next job and win.

Great...2 years after Mac left and got on with his life, people still think he should come back. With the passion towards Shep, somehow I see threads for 2 years+ wanting Shep to come back. Oh and I forgot Getty.

Why can't people just get over it. They're gone!

Hmmmmm........according to about at least 75% of the people on here the recruit star ratings don't mean a whole lot....so your argument is invalid.

Do you think a program like Texas, that gets the best possible of everything, would skimp when it comes to S&C coaches? The trainer my brother works with was an assistant S&C coach at Texas and currently trains 15 major leaguers and 10 NFL guys. My brother will be the first to tell you that he owes everything to him...

the star rating may not matter but given that they aren't assigned randomly, I'd say that the talent it takes to earn a 4/5 star rating might be of some value.

Mack hired him b/c he wanted a big African American to help with recruiting to be a father figure to recruits from the south who don't have a father. Same reason Chizik hired Shep. I have seen Madden speak at a conference, I worked with someone who is a s&c coach that played WR at Texas, I have a master's in exercise science, worked as a coach.........etc. Madden is terrible. There are plenty of terrible coaches in the world. That's why about 20 head coaches get fired every year.

Tell me again how the top programs in the nation benefit from keeping
S&C coaches that don't know what they are doing?

Sounds like they act like a Dad, encourage, step in when needed, and challenge you to make yourself stronger.

That's so slanted and wrong, I don't even know what to say.
