New Mattress Shopping

I bought a Tuft & Needle a little over 3 years ago. For the first year or so was great. Over the last couple years, I have noticed after about 7 hours of sleep my lower back starts to ache. Once I get up and move around, ache is gone. Initially, I thought the issue was with bed frame, pillow, etc. etc. Making changes to those hasn't helped.

As part of the process, for some reason I changed to a memory foam pillow. My overall sleep got worse! My take, memory foam isn't for everyone. Not sure if it's sleeping on a slab of foam (aka petro-chemicals) or the compression feel.

Next bed I buy will be a traditional mattress & box spring.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Saatva? Really close to pulling the trigger, but still nervous about buying a mattress online.
We bought the Saatva hybrid luxury plush a couple of years ago. It's definitely a quality mattress, but it's much too firm for us and I like a firmer mattress. I definitely won't buy a mattress online again.

Tempur pedic beds are amazing. And totally worth the price if you take into account what percent of your life you spend on it, and that it’s going to last for at least 15 years.

Anyone bought one of the latex mattresses?
We have loved ours. Its time to replace probably but not sure on costs now. We got a smokin deal otherwise wouldn't have pulled the trigger.
I have made quite the dent over the years, so that wasn't ideal. No flipping with ours.

Waiting on my delivery now. I've heard good things from too many people to ignore, so finally took the plunge.

Anyone have any experience with Layla? Price and reviews are great (CNET mattress of the year).
I purchased the Layla hybrid a little more than a year ago. I was very skeptical on purchasing one online but during the pandemic I thought I would give it a shot and if I didn't like within so many days I could donate it and get my money back (While also trying 2 different firmness levels). I also got a good deal at that time on it. I have loved it though. Thought I would prefer the firm side but I put it on the soft side to start and haven't switched since. Soft side is way better than my old mattress for sleeping on your side and back. Although it is too soft in my opinion if you a stomach sleeper.

First read this as mistress...I was intrigued on where it would go.

Lebada based in Marion has a unique option. During the first 2 years for a small pickup fee they will take your mattress back to the factory and make it harder or softer. They actually open it up and add foam or take foam out.

Totally disagree, we purchased one and slept on it for 5 years. Every morning my back was killing me from sleeping on it. Finally bite the bullet and shoved it into the spare bedroom, and purchased a sleep number. Expensive as hell, just like the Tempur pedic, but we both love it.

PS, both beds are horrible for fun time with the wife, neither has any bounce back without springs.

Buying a mattress is an incredibly stressful purchase. For the first six years out of college (where I frequently slept on a futon), I was sleeping on the hand-me-down mattress from my parents that had to be at least 40 years old (made only bearable by being in my 20s and using a memory foam topper) until I pulled the trigger on a Purple 3. The price was definitely high (I'll finally have it paid off in a couple months), and for the first few weeks, I was really worried because I kept waking up sore as hell. But I've chalked that up to my body being so screwed up by my old mattress that finally being properly supported was going to be a painful adjustment no matter what, because I'm thrilled with it nearly 3 years later. I think it'll sleep even better if I ever decide to get serious about losing some weight.

Wow, starting at 2k. I guess that's not a surprise but it is a little sticker shock. I'd love the 'cool' one being in AZ but over 4k aint happenin!

I found a lot of mixed reviews on the efficacy of the cooling model. Also had mixed feedback on whether the other models sleep warm. So your mileage may vary there.

A mattress is one purchase where I will open up the wallet to get what I really want. You spend a third of your life in bed, and without good sleep everything else really becomes secondary.

anyone have suggestions on where to look for a platform?

wanting to get a new mattress and go away from the traditional frame/boxspring setup.

Not looking to get too fancy, as some at Homemakers were ~$1000.
