New Mattress Shopping

I honestly don't know. I got it off my brother and sister in law. They had some tiny mundane complaint about theirs and ended up calling just to inform them. They didn't want a new one because theirs was fine but Tuft and Needle sent them one anyways. T&N said they would send someone to pick up the old one free of charge to donate it or they could just keep both.

They ultimately ended up giving the 2nd one to us brand new. Cost me like 50 bucks in shipping from their place across the country. It's pretty cool how they're packaged in such relatively small boxes. Great customer service though.
Thanks for the info. I bought a new traditional mattress in 2013 and it was crazy comfortable. I am really annoyed how bad it has gotten in just 4 years. My parents purchased the exact same one and have it in a spare bedroom that is maybe used 20 times out of the year and it is still extremely comfortable. That is proof how quickly mattresses can go bad. I'm ok getting another one like this T&N one that the comfort may not last as long but is way cheaper. I am just tired (literally) of tossing and turning all night and having a stiff back all day.

We've had a sleep number bed for the last 15 years. It's held up pretty well, and each person can set their side independently. If we were to get another mattress, I'd really look into a Purple mattress.

The have a 10 year warranty on sagging. I haven't noticed any change in the 3 or so years I've had mine.

Which beds give the cooling effect? Is it the foam ones? I am a hot sleeper but love to have the covers up around my neck- the wife hates me for it cuz the heat just radiates under the covers? Is the cooling effect noticeable?

Also, we do have a king and I will never go back to a queen.

Thanks for the info. I am convinced now but I'll have to convince the fiancee to give it a shot. They must be really confident you'll keep it. If you do decide to "return it" they actually just want you to donate it to a charity and show the donation receipt as proof then they'll refund you. I'll just have to find two twin box springs now.

Pretty much all foam mattresses have this these days and pretty much every company has a foam/hybrid option now. There are sheets out there, too, that offer differing levels of cooling effect, some being quite pricey.

If you are buying a mattress online (such as, but not limited to Tuft & Needle, Sapira, etc.) that offers a trial period (which you should!) do NOT buy it from Amazon! Buy it directly from the retailer.

Reason = the Amazon return period trumps the retailers trial period. So you only get 30 days to try it with Amazon, you get 75-100 days (or whatever they offer) direct from the retailer. ... see prior link for examples.

I saw that Amazon also charges tax where on T&N they do not. Good info. Thanks for your help.

I'm going to strongly 2nd this as our Tuft and Needle mattress is awesome. We've had it for a couple years now and neither one of us have a single complaint about it. It's really crazy how much better we sleep now.

I took this advice & ordered one yesterday at around 1:00pm. It was on my porch this morning at 8:00! That's freaking amazing.

$575 for the queen with no tax & free <24 hour delivery, figure I don't have much to lose with the 100 day trial. Looking forward to trying it out.

Niiice. It does take a week or so to fully expand but we noticed the difference in comfort level instantly.

Can't say enough good things about OnPurple. Foam mattresses can be hot. OnPurple has foam but a cooling top.

Best sleep I've ever had. And get Sheex sheets. Again, never slept better.

We are notorious for not investing in pretty much the most important thing we do each day.

How did it turn out for you? We need a new one.

I bought one of those $3k mattresses from nebraska furniture mart and used it for about 7 months. Decided it was no different than anything else ive had and sent it back for a 1k beauty rest. Love it. If you buy, buy from NFM, you get a year to try a lot of them.

Nah. Their policy is better than a lot of the "brick and mortar" stores but still a lot of strings attached -- 120 days total (between all mattresses you try), only the exchange is free, if you want a refund you pay a restocking fee, only 2 total exchanges allowed. Have to buy their proprietary mattress protector, etc. It's there in the fine print.

I just can't justify why I'd do that when there are so many mattress companies now that give you a 100+ day trial period, no shipping, full refund, etc. (Tuft & Needle, Sapira, Nectar, Leesa, etc.) You can basically keep trying until you find one you like.

Consider some of the online mattresses like Casper, Helix, GhostBed, etc. If you read up on them you can get a sense of what you think you'd like and they all offer guarantees if you don't end up liking it. I have a Helix mattress which lets you customize each half of the mattress separately and I love it.

I bought a Ghostbed 2 years ago. It's awesome if you like a firmer mattress. I'd also recommend king size. Changed my life and I'm not even married.
