Saw in the email that coach Jackson is looking to add an assistant and a volunteer this year after Nickerson left.. surprised theres no rumors start on here as to who they might get... anybody hear any possibilities yet? Escobedo for the volunteer coach?
 
KJ told me the hire will be soon, waiting on AD to okay. I have heard that for a couple weeks, so I don't know what the hold up is. KJ did stay back from the OTC this week. Trent and Travis took some starters to OTC camp this week
 
I wouldn't not be surprised to see Angel as the volunteer assistant, also wouldn't be surprised if it is Deron. I think it would depend on what weight the assistant coach is.
 
Good question. I emailed KJ a couple weeks ago and he said he was waiting on AD approval. I have a feeling its Trent and/or Angel, but others tell me it is an outside hire. I don't think there is anybody new in Ames, so I/m stumped as to why any announcement is delayed.
 
Trent is staying coach. I am guessing that Garett kiley is taking over some admin duties
 
Why do we have to have both Paulsons on the staff? I mean, congrats to Trent for getting the job, but it was a bad hire for KJ. Could've had Reader. Plus, now we have one lightweight coach and three heavier guys. I don't like it. Just more of the same.

I love Reader, but why do we like him better than Trent? I feel like everybody thinks that since our new assistant coach looks like the current one, that he doesn't bring anything to the table. I don't think Reader would diversify our style. And again on the weight of the coaches, like because Trent weighs too much, he can't coach a 141 lb guy. Okie State's biggest coach wrestled 149 as a senior. Minnesota only has a volunteer coach that is any smaller than Trent. Those teams were both top 4 last year.

I just would have liked to see Reader stick around Ames. The Paulsons are still there and have shown their loyalty so Trent deserves a shot. I just wanted Reader. I shouldnt' have said it was a bad hire. I really have no idea. My thinking was based on trying to keep Jon around and in our program. I think he's a solid coach and character guy and will be missed around Ames.
 
I agree cytopia. I want Jon in Ames, but I think Trent has more coaching experience and should be the assistant coach. I like Angel as the volunteer assistant. Will get him mat side. Jon would of had to come back as a CWC wrestler, which I hoped would of happened.
