New coach, new image

This was an edit I made on a previous uniform thread:
attachment.php

ISU needs a uniform that is both unique and has ties to who we are. We cannot do something flashy like Oregon or OkSt, nor something crazy like Maryland. But at the same time we cannot do the simple solid jerseys with a number on the side of the helmet like OU or Bama. Thanks to the Trice stripes on the helmet, shoulders, legs, and shadowed on the midsection, this design is both a call back to ISU's history and something completely unique in CFB.

Something close to this would rock. Not as an alternate — as a primary. And I'm one of the biggest uniform-purists on CF.

A couple of minor revisions: (1) The "I" on the I-State helmet logo needs and extra outline to give it definition (I'm not a graphic designer so I'm not sure how to describe it). (2) Put the Trice-stripes at front of helmet, not the back.

Move lived in Big East/ACC territory, Pac12 territory, and SEC territory and you're simply wrong. Everybody who sees the I-State knows who it is. I'm Executive Platinum on American Airlines and I get comments about Iowa State on at least every other trip from my I-State jackets, ties, cuff links, bag tag, or whatever I might have with me at the time. I doubt that 19 out of 20 people even know that there's an Illinois State.

I have not had the same experience. When I'm on vacation it is usually around 50/50 when it comes to logo recognition.

We need to ditch all of these slogans above and go to "I Will". Nothing comes even close to that IMO. It's the words straight from Jack Trice's mouth. What could be better than that?

How sweet would it be to hear all of JT chanting "I! WILL! I! WILL!"??

Take it easy Jamie. Just cause no one likes our boring uniforms doesn't mean you need to get butt hurt over your precious I-State logo. Here are a few schools that don't even use their logos on their helmet that are very nationally recognized. Alabama, Penn State, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame. After I think about it you're right, no one recognizes those schools anyways...
You can't use those schools in a comparison with ISU. You just can't.

It'd be better than CYCLONE POWER. That is pretty seriously lame. At least "I WILL" has something behind it other than "let's take our nickname and add power to it!"

The one chant that people get loud for? Yeah let's get rid of it. Good call.

The new image I want is meaningful October and November football games that lead to meaningful Dec./Jan. football games.

I've lived in every corner of this country and our branding is not working. When I wear my I-State gear the most common thing I get is "oh you went to Illinois State? " and when I lived on the west coast "oh you went to Idaho state? "

And these are people that know sports. The reality is when you're out of big 12 country our logo isn't a national brand because Iowa isn't nationally recognized "I" doesn't cut it.

To me, that there is the most apparent logic that our I-State branding effort is a failure. I could personally go either way on the logo, this isn't my personal opinion. It's fact that people have no idea what it is.

Interesting. I've had the complete opposite experience. Only when I sported the old logo did I get questions. Now? Instantly recognizable....everywhere I go. And, for the record, I don't live in the Midwest....talking about Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, etc.

I do like when they let the fans vote on what they like, although last time they did that Chizik went to JP and pushed the I State logo even though it didn't win.

Edit: I found the old vote link, it wasn't a vote for the future main logo but for a specialty helmet for a game. I think this was the first use of the I State logo though. IIRC the scrip t Cyclone came in first by fan popular opinion. http://m.cyclones.com/mobile/ViewArticle.dbml?atclid=1138775&DB_OEM_ID=10700&

I State won by a huge margin.

Same here. Never had any issues with people knowing that ISU is I-State.

One time I wore a hat that just had I.S.U. on it. A lady thought I was supporting the International Skating Union.

The Whirly Bird gets looks, but mostly because people can't figure it out. That logo looked horrible on TV. Just horrible

I-State is the logo, not what you are supposed to call Iowa State. I find it odd at how many people don't understand that. The I-State logo is much more recognizable than other logos we have had.

I can't believe we didn't hire an FBS position coach.

Agreed. Really wish ESPN U would stop using that stupid whirly bird with a fist.

See what I mean. How can you not like this logo? It's got the 'Cy'; it's got the 'cyclone'; and it looks good. BTW, I'm in favor of keeping the 'I-State' logo as primary. But secondary logos like this on the jersey, pant, alternate helmet, or stationary, any marketing...would be awesome. There are some other good alternative , 2* logos also. Keep some of them. Mix it up.

This looks like a red **** stain on a yellow lid
