NCAA BASKETBALL CORRUPTION SCHEME

This is a big deal. There will definitely be repercussions. This is the Feds we're talking about. They can't just be paid to look away like the NCAA. The Feds will pressure the assistants into flipping on bigger fish in exchange for a deal. I'm just speculating but I think we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg here.

The trickle down effect is going to be massive. Think about all of the AAU "handlers" that are just looking out for the well being of a young mans future....

Agreed. Coaches have been able to lean on plausible deniability long enough. Federal action is just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully the gumption is there for this to be as expansive as it needs to be. Lots of programs would be f***ed right in the bum, coaches would be gone - tenured, respected coaches.

I'm looking at you, Coach K.

Remember when there were reports of Anthony Davis asking for 150k? I am sure that wasn't ever paid..... or what about Lebron getting access to Kentucky- that could have been about getting his agent Rich Paul in the door to get Kentucky guys.

Like someone said, once the people that got arrested start talking it is going to get even worse.

Forgive me if I am slow, but what exactly is a federal crime here?

NCAA violations, certainly, but what could they have done that breaks a federal statute?

Same question for football as basketball.

Shame on the NCAA who could have headed this off with rules promulgation. Shame on them for fostering this system.

If this is the tip of the iceberg, the football will be next. It makes no sense that 5 stars sign with the same 7 schools each year. How does IMG get its kids and why are they allowed to exist.

Have heard some other things and will not be surprised if CFB is next.

If there was only one guy in the entirety of NCAA basketball that is clean, my bet would be on Steve Prohm.

He and Beilein would be 1 and 1A for me. I can just tell by how their recruiting typically goes. Both guys are "in" on a ton of very high level talent and they don't end up getting a lot of them. Those aren't the guys that are guilty, or at least the most guilty. It's places like OSU, UNLV, Louisville, that aren't those typical blue bloods, yet seem to come in and grab a bunch of those highly recruited guys.

Not a legal mind, but probably some sort of tax evasion. Publicly traded companies also need to have clean books.

I've read that Mike Brey is considered very legit, and people would be shocked to see him show up in a story like this.

It will be most likely:

1. Money Laundering since cash is involved
2. Bribery
3. Tax evasion - see #1
4. Collusion

Football isn't clean by any means but it's nowhere near BB. For one, one player doesn't neccesarily make it tick. For another, those 7 teams you mention can pay huge dividends for a guys future which isn't true for basketball. Markell Fultz and Ben Simmons are examples. Both were great on **** teams and they did very well for themselves. The other thing is there isn't a lot of incentive for Saban or Harbaugh or Meyer to go out and pay one guy. That one guy likely isn't going to move the needle. Without Bo Scarborough, Alabama is still great. Without Jabrill Peppers, Michigans defense was going to be great. The return isn't there. The other, biggest thing, is that you don't have an AAU system that is at the center of all of this ****. It's high school coaches that, in most cases, are well meaning people rather than horse brokers. Michigan has 11 guys from last years defense in the NFL. Alabama has done that for years. That's plenty of reason for a high level recruit to go there.

Sure, there's some car stuff and there's some money under the table but when you compare Jim Tressel and what happened at OSU to Rick Pitino and what happened at Louisville, it ridiculous that one is still coaching and the other got a show-cause. Absolutely stupid.
