I have seen much harsher wording and much more 'spirited' banter than there was in the thread that was brought into question. The bottom line is, if you have strong opinions on something, and you word them strongly, expect to have some people respond in kind. Can't say I agree with bringing Rashon into the argument, but I see where that person was coming from. This forum isn't for everyone, so if someone chooses to stop posting here, there is nothing wrong with that. However, I don't think anything was said that was on par with some of the really bad mudslinging that happens in this form of discussion.

I hope you (13) decide to come back, this place is not as enjoyable without you.

I surprised that someone would leave the forum, b/c they were upset at someone's opinion. Clearly you have a different opinion that would only add a position to one that is stated. The forum would obviously be better the more opinions that we can get.

I haven't been on the cf board much until recently, so I'm a little in the dark on Cyfan13's departure. I assume he's not banned, so there must be some other reason, but I hope it's not because he's been made to feel unwelcome. I interacted with him on the "let's not fire McDermott" post, which morphed into a McDermott v Morgan post. Those comparisons were naturally going to come, especially since Greg replaced Wayne after he was canned. It's also not unusual that the question of race would be discussed in the Morgan firing, especially considering his records and accomplishments at ISU. Cyfan13 did take some heat for bringing it up. Racism, usually very subtle, has been and still is an issue in America, and to ignore it or criticize someone who brings it up doesn't help any of us face it. I don't know if subtle racism had anything to do with Morgan's getting canned. I don't believe it did, but I can't say with 100% certainty that it didn't. I do know I don't believe for a second that JP would have canned Morgan without backing (or more likely prodding) from the big donors. For the most part it appears to me that people have disagreed respectfully on this board, with a few exceptions, and I hope Cyfan13 isn't leaving for that reason, but only he knows. The few posts of his that I did read were presented with facts, and made me think, which like Jim Volvano said, is always a good thing.

I'm surprised that this thread hasn't been closed yet. A topic that clearly makes someone with the ability to close threads uncomfortable is in this one as well...racism.

Cyfan13 never really brought it up but did dance around the subject a little. I made the comment that I think some of the thoughts we have of WM and GM differ because "WM does not look like your typical Iowan while GM is an Iowan". Let's face it...all of us are more comfortable with people that are similar to us. Because of this discrimination will always exist...discrimination against short people, discrimination against fat people, discrimination against smokers...the list goes on and on. As a state Iowa's population is 95% white and about 3% black. My guess is that for many posters on this board the only interface they ever have with a black person is via Cyclone athletics.

No, I do not think that WM was hired or fired because of his race. I do, however, think that the prevailing perception of WM by the general population of Cyclone fans does have something to do with race. I'm not arguing that the man was the greatest coach to ever walk the face of the earth...but he did win 59% of his games and never had a losing season in his three years. TF and LE only won 63% of their games and each had losing seasons at ISU. Yeah, the DI scheduling thing was less than desirable but no where near as humiliating and damaging to the university and the program as the LE scandal.

So then, I ask you why is WM castigated while others are idolized?

Again, I am not getting off because we had differing opinions, but because I don't want everything I say on here to be taken out of context. And since so many people don't seem to understand that I am my own person and have my own mind and am not Rahshon's spokeswoman, it makes it too hard for me to post on here without it being seen as his views. I tried to be honest and be myself, but that obviously backfired.
