My Last Thread

Rashon Clark is probably my favorite Cyclone player because of his integrity, his allegiance to ISU and his monster athletic ability. Anyone criticizing him for his play hasn't watched him over the long haul and is basing an opinion of a bad performance, not his history.

And, if all of us just quit posting because somebody went against our opinions, CF would have a revolving membership of about 50 members, and this is a respectable message board. It would be a lot worse on some of the other sites.

I'm a big fan of Rahshon, I had a class with him my Freshmen year and he was really cool when i talked to him about the team, he could have just blown me off. He seems to be a good role model for present and future Cyclones to follow.

Of course his game is not perfect but he just brings so much electricity to the fans with his style of play...high flyin dunks, big 3's, and aggressive D. Good luck to you and Rahshon.

- For those of you that say he can only dunk. He has 69 career dunks. That's 138 points. He has 980 career points, so the other 842 points had to come from somewhere other than dunks.

- He is ranked 9th in ISU history for 3 pointers made with 94. For those of you who don't realize, that's more 3's than dunks.

- He is ranked 6th in ISU history for blocks with 94. I'm pretty sure blocks are an important aspect in basketball, otherwise they would not keep this stat.

- He is ranked 13th in ISU history in steals with 130. Once again, defense is pretty important in basketball.

- He is ranked 20th in ISU history in rebounds with 565.

- He has been a defensive stopper, keeping the other team's best player from scoring their avg.

He put these numbers up while going through a coaching change that made him have to totally adjust to a different way of playing basketball and with different teammates each year. He sacrificed his offense for the better of the team, and no one can deny that, as his point totals went down drastically from his soph year. He has the ability to score more than just dunking, and anyone who watched him play as a freshmen or sophmore knows that. His weakness is his ability to dribble and everyone knows that, but I don't think that makes him a one dimensional player considering all of the other stats listed above.

That's just my opinion. Some may think otherwise.

CF was fun getting to see other people's opinions on our team! One thing we can all agree on is that we all want the Cyclones to do well! Go Clones!

It more has to do with the fact that some feel that because of who I am I am not allowed to make comments about the team/coaches/recruits. Most of the people on this site make the same comments (and a whole lot worse) than I make, but because of who I know, I guess I am not allowed to make them. I am friends with every single guy on the team, and I would never "slam" any of them. If I can't state my opinion and everything I say seems like i'm "slamming" my friends, it doesn't really make any sense for me to post anymore.
 
I haven't been on the cf board much until recently, so I'm a little in the dark on Cyfan13's departure. I assume he's not banned, so there must be some other reason, but I hope it's not because he's been made to feel unwelcome. I interacted with him on the "let's not fire McDermott" post, which morphed into a McDermott v Morgan post. Those comparisons were naturally going to come, especially since Greg replaced Wayne after he was canned. It's also not unusual that the question of race would be discussed in the Morgan firing, especially considering his records and accomplishments at ISU. Cyfan13 did take some heat for bringing it up. Racism, usually very subtle, has been and still is an issue in America, and to ignore it or criticize someone who brings it up doesn't help any of us face it. I don't know if subtle racism had anything to do with Morgan's getting canned. I don't believe it did, but I can't say with 100% certainty that it didn't. I do know I don't believe for a second that JP would have canned Morgan without backing (or more likely prodding) from the big donors. For the most part it appears to me that people have disagreed respectfully on this board, with a few exceptions, and I hope Cyfan13 isn't leaving for that reason, but only he knows. The few posts of his that I did read were presented with facts, and made me think, which like Jim Volvano said, is always a good thing.

You just have to ignore them. Believe it or not, if you just ignore them and dont respond to jabs, more times than not, they stop doing it.

CyFan is a lady. Otherwise some of the stuff she has posted would make things awkward regarding Rahshon =)

And just for the records, I was not the one to bring up race, I just agreed with it. I also did not say it is why JP fired him, just said that it was one of the reasons fans couldn't relate to him. He was nothing like most Iowans, and not just because of his race, but because of where he grew up, and because of his unfriendly personality. I know JP didn't fire Morgan because of these race, and I never said he did. I just wish people would read what the posts actually say before they all start jumping all over someone.

ahhhhh....... life on a message board where

  1. sarcasm isn't easily typed.
  2. sarcasm isn't for everyone
  3. many people have poor writing skills
  4. many people have poor reading skills
  5. many people have poor comprehensive skills
  6. many people post anonymously
  7. everyone takes it too seriously at times
  8. everyone is guilty of 1-6
Once we get past the problems of the online forums, the better we understand them.

This isn't directed at you 13... just a reminder to all.

It has to be very difficult to have a loved one that plays BB/FB and be on message boards.

I think it's probably best for sanity reasons to not frequent the boards, except when times are really good like after a Big 12 win, etc.

Personally, I think having someone like you who is in the know a lot more then a lot of us who hide behind keyboards gives a lot of credibility to your opinions. I didn't agree with the assumptions some had about Morgan being gone because of color issues but the whole "Player x looked horrible" really got exaggerated. I would bet that anyone that "heard you say" in a conversation what you "typed" on the keyboard wouldn't have questioned your intent but it is hard to type exagerations, or sarcasm, or joking into a post because when we read something, we put the emotion in what we think you were thinking when you typed the message and then we judge which is a trait flaw we humans have. I enjoy your comments and hope you reconsider.

I also know that some that criticized your opinion have no reason to be criticizing because some of them have taken personal pot shots at our players and that is wrongolla.

I have seen you and Rashon at the Capital City league games and can see that you guys are class acts in the way you treat the public who at times can be a little agressive in talking to someone they look up to. For what it's worth.......:yes:

I would post my real picture, but I'm not quite as pretty as my current avatar. I agree with much that has been said here. I hope that you reconsider posting, as the anonymous detractors are just negative nellies with a glass half full mentality. Nothing will make them completely happy. I think Rahshon has been a great asset to Iowa State, and I've always loved his attitude and work ethic.

It probably would be better to at least post anonimously in your position....hindsight, I guess. Hope you stick around one way or another!!

Trust me it's tough when people get on a message board, coward behind a screen name and take shots at people....especially when they are people you care for and worse when you know what they are saying isn't true. For some reason people think they have that right and I guess they do.

It's tough to ignore and it's even tougher not to respond. My best advice, don't expose yourself to it.
 
I was tempted to join a Washington Nationals message board when my brother signed with them. I am glad I didn't and have since stopped even watching it. Pro fans are MUCH harder on guys and it takes alot to read it. You should have seen the posts after his outing against the Rockies 2.2 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 1 SO.
