Most Improbable Win Since?

It doesn't seem like it should be up there because we have beat a LOT of top 10 teams this year. This was never a bad team. It was a team that played bad several times over the the last month.

Just put this together: ISU went 7-3 against teams that finished the season ranked higher conference play, and 2-6 against teams ranked lower. Clearly we should have all seen this coming.

It’s why basketball is the best sport. I’d be shocked to see anything like that in a football season.

that is hard to believe. wow

If I remember right the first one of these I can think of was when Johnny’s team beat that Purdue team. They were ranked number two if I remember right. The main difference was that game was only by a point or two. Otherwise many more great wins in Hilton than away.

#11 K-State is getting rolled on the road by WVU today. I think we have a lower floor and a higher ceiling than the Wildcats. ISU's big fault is consistency, obviously. KSU just has a more consistent ability to score from places on the floor where we struggle, which leads to the wider distribution in wins and losses for ISU in a top to bottom tough league. ISU's defense travels every game, the offense doesn't.

What the actual **** just happened.

For ISU sports I'd say the Kyle Kempt game. For Basketball.... Greg winning at a top 10 Kansas State randomly the last year he was here?
I don’t think it was improbable at all. I don’t think it’s in the same universe as the Kempt game or anything like that. I’m shocked and a bit embarrassed for fans that are thinking this. Not long ago Iowa State was a legit top 15 team, and had earned it. I very much expected Iowa State to play well (and cohesively) today given the shake up the occurred earlier this week. Certainly want to be respectful to the situation but I can’t really stress how much better I feel about this team since then. Go Cyclones!

You think its embarrassing people thought a team who just lost home games to 3 of the worst 4 teams in the conference and hasnt been good on the road, and only had 2 wins in February went and beat a top 10 team on the road after not winning there in 8 years and kicking their best 3 point shooter off the team?

All that seems fairly surprising to me

And TCU gets rolled by OU.

There's just not much room for surprises in wins or losses.

I'm not saying if we were the 7 seed playing 10 seed OU that we wouldn't win...but I like this position much much better. Losing on Wednesday would have been super annoying. OU is playing well. That 8/9 game is gonna be crazy (Tech vs OSU if my bracket math is right)

As several mentioned ISU over #5 KSU in ’10 is definitely up there.

Greg’s ISU teams rarely won Big 12 road games vs anyone not named Nebraska.

Historically, prior to that upset, ISU was 7-104 on the road vs ranked teams. (i’m sure the current record isn’t all that hot, either, but that’s OU-in-football bad)

Hadn’t won in Manhattan since ’01.

ISU had lost 21 straight road games.

Brackins and Dendy fouled out ... Brackins prior to OT. Hamilton and Scotty had 4 fouls.

I didn't feel like this was that improbable, we've been close in a lot of road games, some of those without Jaz. I would say 4 games this year where we never had a chance. UConn, Iowa, Mizzou and Texas and all those teams had some of their best nights against us. More impressive is only one B12 blowout with the strength of this league.

Honestly the Iowa blowout at home last year and the win over UNC after Georges broke his foot were more suprising to me.

Welcome to Surprise Town. “3 of the 4 worst teams” are still like 3 or 4 of the top 50 teams in the country.

Keep in mind we hadn't beaten a single top 25 home or away in his tenure before this.

And TJ just beat his 8th. This year. Plus 5 Top 10 wins.

Great season but a ton of “what if” potential. Win a couple of those against bottom feeders and we are staring at a 2/3 seed. Oh well, we’re in.

I never can get myself in the “what if” game. Because everything else changes too. You can’t just “what if we win against WVU last game” and just assume we win away at Baylor. It’s Big 12 basketball. Lumps will be taken.
