Morris vs Mason

While Monte' shapes up above Mason in a lot of categories, the scoring average and hitting over half of his 3 point shots on the season is pretty impressive. I love Morris, and wouldn't trade him, but as much as I hate Mason and his swim move whenever he drives to the basket, I have to respect what he has accomplished.

I thoroughly loathe KU basketball, but I do like Mason's businesslike demeanor on the court. It's about the only positive thing I can say about that team.

I actually really Like Mason (can't believe I said that.) I've loathed KU PG's for eyars, but Mason just does't rub me the wrong way for some reason. Also really like Josh Jackson!

Let's see who gets drafted 1st. 6'3 who takes care of the basketball and shines with elite talent or 5'10 who has short arms and likely won't be able to score well in the NBA

I know Monte is Man-Man in this category, but I'm surprised Mason's numbers aren't all that impressive in A / TO. I would of thought he was easily > 2.0

Frank can get a little out of control when he barrels through the lane, leading to a decent number of turnovers. If he can get to the rim it often leads to an "and one" but he doesn't always get there.

It's mainly due to big performances on big stages in my opinion.

Mason has had 9 "big stage" games: Indiana, Duke, Kentucky, West Virginia x2, Baylor x2 and ISU x2. He averaged 22.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5 assists and led his team to a 6-3 record in those big games.

Morris has had 7 "big stage" games: Gonzaga, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Baylor x2 and KU x2. He has averaged 16.3 points, 4.4 boards and 5.5 assists per game and led his team to a 2-5 record in those games.

Having your best games when more eyes are on you matters.

I'm curious if the NBA officials are going to fall for the swim move push off so he flies sideways looking like he was shot in the lane. Especially if a rookie is doing it.

Why???

But, I don't remember Morris starting the year off as well; iirc Mason has been playing like he has since the beginning of the season. It seems like Morris has played a lot better in conference than he did in the non con. Also Fewer unimpressive ISO plays.

Would Mason or Morris be better/worse if they switched uniforms? Imagine Morris getting Mason's calls and with McDs and four stars. On the other hand Mason would find refs swallowing their whistles hard to overcome.

Imagine how many more fouls Morris would draw if he drove to the rim to draw contact more? It has never been a big part of Morris' game. He tends to drive away from contact to try to get off shots instead of seeking contact to draw fouls and get to the line. They are totally different styles of players. Morris doesn't get Mason's calls because he doesn't try to.

You've made the point that playing for a top team over shadows individual skills.
If Mason played for OU do you think he'd be considered?

As of right now, I'm pretty sure Mason is under 40% from 2 in B12 play. Not so good when people don't foul him down there.

Separate arguments about better PG and better season/player.

Mason is shooting the ball like a freak of nature. He's not the PG Monte is but neither is any other NCAA player.

Considering his style and propensity to draw fouls, that is expected. It would be crazy good if he was at or above 50%. It's usually a tradeoff to seek contact and draw fouls as opposed to focusing on high conversion rate.

He is the all time Big 12 record holder for net force of backwards intentional neck whiplash motion. That doesn't have anything to do with the 3s he's raining down though. There was one in their game this weekend that had me rolling on the floor, he whipped his head backwards a full two seconds after the contact. I seriously think he could paralyze himself.

Mason has been great all year, so I think he's comfortably ahead for B12 POY.

Monte's February has been awesome, I think the's at 17.3 and 7.4 assists this last month. Oh, with a total of 4 TO's and I think one of them was the BS jump ball at Tech. If we win out and he has 2 more really good games, I think it'll be closer than people think.

He's been consistently hitting his mid range jumpers lately, which I think is what he needs to do to get paid in the NBA for a really long time.

Also, I got home just in time to watch KU pull down OU's pants tonight. The Phog was pretty impressive for those last 10 minutes, you knew the Sooners were done immediately.
