So, in looking at Big XII stats, why again is Mason considered to be a better PG than Monte? Mason scores more points but other than that, Monte is equal to or better in the statistical categories than Mason. And, Monte greatly exceeds the assist/turnover ratio, the most important attribute of a PG. Those additional possessions ISU gets should also be factored into each player's affect on points scored, not to mention points not scored by the other team after a turnover

If Monte were running a team with all the 4/5 stars KU has, his assist numbers would be even higher. He would also be the person being mentioned as PYOTY nationally. In head-to-head, Monte played as well if not better than Mason, especially in crunch time in our win at KU.

Yet another benefit of KU's reputation. Here are the conference games stats for both:

Mason Morris

Pts: 20.5 16.9

FG%: .445 .445

Asst: 4.3 6.4

Asst/TO: 1.7 7.9

Stls: 1.3 1.6

3 Pt%: .521 .426

3 Pt Made: 2.4 1.6

Oh man, no one on here is going to agree with you.

I'll say that I wouldn't trade monte for mason. I'm glad he's our guy even if mason is considered the better player.

Because Kansas, but you are correct and won't change anyone's mind that isn't a Cyclone fan.

Per 100 possessions (This season):

Monte
46.9% FG, 50.0% 2P%, 39.0% 3P%, 80.2% FT%, 7.1 reb, 9.7 assists, 2.2 steals, 0.3 blocks, 1.6 turnovers, 26.2 points

Mason
48.6% FG, 47.6% 2P%, 50.4% 3P%, 77.1% FT%, 6.3 reb, 7.6 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.1 blocks, 3.8 turnovers, 31.5 points

In the end Mason is averaging 20 and 5 leading the #3 B12 regular season champions. Also Mason hit big shots on a national stage in the non-con giving him recognition by the media

Monte is having a fabulous year and deserves to be in the conversation for POY but in the end the tiebreaker goes to the player who's team has more wins when they are so close in play.

Same as MVP in baseball being the best player one of the best, if not thee best, team that season. Sometimes it's the best player in the league but oftentimes is not. It's just subjective BS that sometimes comes up with an answer that can be objectively defended when someone just runs away with it statistics wise.

Both have had excellent years and careers. As many mentioned, it's really about who is on the better team.

Mason used to be a weakness for KU at point guard. His progress has been remarkable and he is a helluva competitor.

For ISU, I'll take Monte all day long. We'd be looking at a lot of different results without his ability to take care of the ball. Like Prohm mentioned over the weekend, due to our lack of second chance points we can't afford lost possessions.

Frank had a really good start but had some ups and downs in big 12 play, I think Monte was kind of the other way around. Frank got the hype first...plus...Kansas. A month ago I'd have said Frank was having a better season but the last month, Monte has been amazing.

Mason is a better scorer and "2 guard."

Monté is more consistent, more efficient, and a better point guard.

Just different styles -- a combo and a true PG.

They would be pretty deadly together, though.

Mason is having a great year. Monte is as well. Both will be first team all Big 12.
I think you are just assuming Assist to TO is the most important stat of a PG. I don't think it is. It depends on what the system demands out of your PG. You also have to take into account a lot of times Graham is more of the point for KU.

Hard to argue against either one. Mason will get it because he is the leader of the best team in the conference, which is fine. He has had a great year and is deserving.

I am glad we have Monte and wouldn't trade them.

Mason deserves POY, but I'd rather have Monte or Jawun Evans as my PG.

I think Evans definitely belongs in the same conversation as those two.

I don't think Mason is considered a better PG per se but rather he's having a fantastic season as a guard with 20 and 5 average on possibly the #1 overall seed team. That is why he is on top.

I thoroughly loathe KU basketball, but I do like Mason's businesslike demeanor on the court. It's about the only positive thing I can say about that team.
