More 2012 predictions

It is summer and that means it is time for predictions on the upcoming season. Many magazines predict a subpar season for the Clones, but I wouldn't put much stock in these mags. Often they are written by outside sources who investigate little into a team if they are not in the top-25. A place to trust (thanks illinoiscyclone) is Collegefootballmatrix.com. Their analysis is numerical with no emotion involved.

They predict ISU to finish 5-7 this season. I think they are accurate in writing, "Iowa State has a very good and dangerous coach but they will serve only to upset dreams of conference foes while hoping to get to bowl eligible."

Big 12 -
 
If I was in the line of perdicting, this would be pretty close to what I would predict.

Way better than looking at who should be favored in each game, and henceforth picking us for 2 wins. It's possible, but a 5 win season would be where I put my over/under line if I was taking bets on our season.
 
it'll be an exciting year bcuz we all know we could finish between 3-9 and 8-4 realistically, but you never know if some things just bounce our way a few times and we pull a few "upsets." Beating teams like KSU, Kansas, Texas Tech, TCU are all possible. none would be huge upsets or really upsets at all imo. OU, Texas, WVU...now those would be our upset games. losing to Tulsa (although yes they might be a little tougher), WIU would be depressing. Its just a matter of taking a lot, if not all of those "swing" games in the middle. A victory over Baylor is really needed IMO, also playing KSU tough but falling short is getting old. need to take them to the woodshed for payback.
 
I think we have a really good shot at winning 7 of our first 11 games. The home/away orientation is set up well (except Iowa).

I say we start off 4-0 with two squeakers @Iowa and at home vs tech.
Lose a close one at tcu
Get a huge win vs Kansas state. This k state game could be Rhoads biggest game as head coach. Ranked team at home, haven't beaten them in 4 years.. if we win, we'll be ranked the next week.
Lose at Osu
Win vs baylor...
And so forth
 
All CPR has done is exceed my expectations for 3 years. With another coaching change, I thought I would see 3-5 years of 3-5 win seasons. I was wrong.

ISU will be 6-5 heading into game vs. WVU.

ISU will be 7-5 after the game is over.
 
Everyone know the ISU-UI game can go either way, but if Iowa shows up in force at home ISU has virtually zero chance of winning, I think wvu will have to earn the right to lose against ISU, but k state has to go down this year....that game will define the season imo. probably shouldn't expect to win the first seven no ( or seven at all for that matter) the schedule is terribly tough
 
I just love the fact that Iowa State has a team that is competitive in the Big 12. Wins (or loses). Plan on cheering loudly for my Cyclones, as I have done for the past 43 years.
 
I can't complain about a 5-7 prediction. We'll need an upset or two (which I think we'll get) to do better than that. The big thing is no more games like Utah or any others where we are embarrassed and don't belong on the field.

I look forward to the 2013 predictions after we prove ourselves by getting 8-9 wins this year. Go Cyclones.

Yeah, this is the thing I'd like to see changed first and foremost.

52-0 against Oklahoma, 52-17 against Missouri......just flat out unacceptable. It would be nice to see this season with no losses with 30+ point spreads. And that goes with our 5-69-2 all time record against Oklahoma. It makes me sick. I would like nothing more than to beat the sooners this season.


5-7 seems about right. Why? Because, like Kansas State, we came out on the winning side of a lot of games that could have gone either way. We were a lot closer to going 3-9 than we were to going 7-5. So I'm not going to be so quick in creating lofty expectations. That will only set myself up for disappointment.
 
5 wins is a pretty accurate prediction IMO. Pretty much what I'd go with too, especially considering our schedule again.
 
I don't care who you are, you are not immune to a blowout. The Missouri game last year was just one of those games. Texas got beat really badly by Oklahoma last year. Oklahoma got beat really badly by Osu. Kansas state got outscored 35-0 in the second half by OU. Iowa got best by Arizona state 44-7 awhile back when they won 10 games on the year. In 08 Oklahoma beat a handful of really good teams really badly. And so on...

This is so true. I can't remember a time when I felt so confident that our team could compete with every team it faces. Maybe the 6-1 Seneca year. That feels like it was so long ago.
