Why? Because the MM to NBA conversation is polluting threads.

Discuss.

If he has another year on par or better than last year, he's gone. No question in my mind.

I can't speak on what he'll do because I don't really know what he wants but I don't see him being a first rounder next year.

For some reason, I could see him going in the Draft, but not really succeeding the NBA. As in turning into a draft flop. I don't want that to be the reality, but that idea lingers in my head.

If he goes, that means he had a monster season........I hope he's a lottery pick.

If he stays, hopefully he deferred to the seniors and was more a facilitator to a successful season. Then comes back to be a stud and lead ISU to back to back final 4's.

Can i ask why you feel this way? It's an honest question,

A. I don't follow the NBA at all.

B, because I don't follow it, it gives me very little perspective on what would make a good NBA Guard.

Is it his size, speed, shooting? He seems to have all the tools for the college game and I know that doesn't mean NBA success by any stretch. Just wondering why you feel the way you do.

I've used this reference before, but.......

Monte Morris last year:
11.9 PPG, 5.2 APG

Rajon Rondo's last college year:
11.2 PPG, 4.9 APG

Rondo was also a McDonald's All American and went pro after his soph year.

I follow the NBA a little, but not much. Just on my observation, I don't see Monte playing similarly to how other successful PG's do. Granted, that may be coachable, but it's a stretch. There's obviously some transitional time due to it just simply being a different style of game.

It's a little to do with size and shooting. He's fast, and that's good, his ballhandling is good, but he's pretty light and defense is OK but not incredible. He wouldn't be much of an asset apart from the running the ball offensively that I can see [which may or may not be a big deal depending on which organization he would go to]. Also, he seems like the type of player who would need to be a major shooting threat to be dangerous, and I mean a big-deal-type threat. Monte doesn't seem like the 15-20 PPG type. I think that would limit his success as well.

I guess it really depends how anyone defines "success". My fear is that he'd be drafted, maybe play some, but eventually fall out of the league.

Talking stats when discussing NBA projections is completely useless

Rondo was also a McDonald's All American and went pro after his soph year.
1. Because McDonald's All-Americans are guaranteed to succeed in the NBA.
2. Because going one year earlier is such a huge deal.

Tell that to him.

If Monte only averages 11.9 ppg this year he will not be a first round pick unless he completely dominates the NCAA tournament or something IMO. He needs to show he can score more. Players that are highly regarded out of HS are believed to have more upside so yes I think they have a big advantage over a player like Monte. See Tyus Jones

Bottom line: Morris doesn't turn the ball over, has great court vision, has good size for a point guard (could put on some more bulk, but that can be developed) and can hit from anywhere on the court.

Of course they will get more press and be monitored more closely than players like Morris through college. Cameron Payne is going in the first round this year (though he is a scorer like you noted).

I agree with you that Morris needs to show he can influence more games with his scoring to really improve his stock, but I still think he leaves after this year.

I don't see it. I love MM but I can see a senario where Prohm tells Monte if he comes back for his senior season he will be THE go to guy for scoring...which would obviously spike his numbers and potentially get him in the first round. I just don't see his numbers changing much next year. I think he can be an NBA guy but another thing is I believe I heard he will only be 21 years old his senior year. That's still young and the NBA loves young.
