MONDAY MUSINGS: Transfer rules, hoops schedule notes

I don't think leaving college altogether (going to nba) is the same thing as transferring to another college. You are leaving college. Thus leaving the NCAA's jurisdiction. Im still in favor of letting grads be instantly eligible though.

1 actually finishes his degree, the other has no intention of ever getting his degree, which one better represents what college is all about.

And I know you are cool with the instant eligibility. It more about how that NCAA VP is trying to spin things

True. But the only reason that most of the one and done guys are there is because they have to be. Which is an entirely diff convo.

What is the percentage of all students who enroll at Iowa State, but don't finish?

It wouldn't surprise me if it was less than 50%.

Still yet to see anyone explain why the current grad transfer rules are bad.

Seems like the worst case scenario right now is a guy who graduates and gets another year of education but doesn't finish his advanced degree.

Trying to figure out how this is bad for anyone? Other than the schools that have a monopoly on high school players of course.

Great points all around. As I wrote, I see both sides. I really do. It's an interesting conversation. Regarding JP's tweets, I get his stance too. I just have a hard time comparing track athletes to high-major basketball players. Rarely similar situations, IMO.

Good chatter though guys.

They are both student athletes Chris. There's the similarity.

Why make a student sit in college for another year(deny their right to make money) when freshman don't have to redshirt?

Good thing Harvard didn't make Bill Gates redshirt before he decided to leave early to make money.

Oh, that's right. It's all about the student athletes. I forgot.

With the rule as it is at least these Sr transfers are participating in a Masters program, I am willing to bet the number of Sr transfers decreases thus meaning less are participating in a Masters program. The NCAA should be happy that these athletes are at least starting the Masters programs.

And regarding Chris's post that you can't compare BB and T&F transfers I disagree, if the NCAA tries to restrict it for one or two sports and not all I will guarantee there will be a lawsuit against the NCAA.

Back to the non-con schedule conversation, here are the mid-majors that Lunardi has as at-large or on the bubble in his too early tourney field. I didn't include Big East schools, as I'd still consider them a high major for hoops. Obviously having a Gonzaga or Wichita State come to Hilton would be huge, but it seems unlikely that it's a team of that caliber. I guess we will see.

Gonzaga
Wichita State
Dayton
SMU
Cincinnati
Rhode Island
San Diego State
Temple
Murray State
VCU
Buffalo
Old Dominion
Iona
Stephen F. Austin
Yale
Valparaiso
George Washington
Tulsa
Davidson

If that happened to be the pool of potential opponents, most mileage would probably come from:
Gonzaga
Wichita State
Cincinnati
Dayton
SMU
Rhode Island
San Diego State
Temple
VCU
George Washington
Tulsa
Davidson

That's as much guess as anything, but I'd be more intrigued to see those on the schedule compared to the rest.

It could make a difference if it's just a one-time at Hilton, or a home-and-home.
