MONDAY MUSINGS: It's hard to be optimistic anymore

Just out of curiosity where do you come up with this stuff? CPR isn't a QB coach and never has been. He was a defensive coach and a good one at that. With that being said CPR let's his offensive coaches (mainly the QB coach) deal with the QB's. I have never once seen him try to coach up one of the QB's, if he thinks there is a problem he makes the position coach aware of it and the position coach does the coaching up....

If CPR lets the coaches do the coaching up, with his D background is he hands off with Wally's guys too? After almost 800 yards, I hope not.

I suppose I could muster up some inane argument for ranking 2-4 Texas over 4-2 Texas Tech but I would love to hear the reasoning behind ranking West Virginia and Kansas State over Texas Tech at this point.

Not sure if serious?...

In case you haven't noticed the only thing between ISU and the bottom of the P5 is the worst KU team ever. No one here cares about your ranking. Presto! TTU is #1 in the weekly weR138 Big 12 poll...feel better?

Next week might be 900 yards of cushion. TCU needs to go for the gusto in the ratings.

I'm talking about the power ranking in the article, the article this entire 5 page thread is based on. Is this not the place to discuss the power ranking within the aforementioned article?

Huh? I am almost certain if you lined them up and had a race, Warren would torch Ryen. Warren was a 100m dash champion in the state of Oklahoma. Ryen plays fast, but the fastest guy on offense was getting the ball, just not enough.

You are right it seems. I looked it up and I found a 40 time for Ryen at 4.47 from 2012 and a 4.36 time for Warren in 2013. I would be interested to know what Ryen is running 3 years with college track training under his belt. Still 0.1 sec isn't torching.... So how about more wr/bubble screens?

That is all.

The head coach SHOULD BE micromanaging his assistants. It's only when you've proven yourself inept that everyone agrees to just stay the hell away.

You are the boss. You sure as he'll better have a hand in every aspect of the program on and off the field.

That doesn't mean you can't let your assistants do their jobs, but they should be running YOUR system. They come to YOU for help and advice.

Who is the last person in the world you want Louis Ayeni and Sam Richardson turning to for advice?

The running game is the one aspect of our season that's working.

Yea not Paul. But what I said is true.

You're assuming someone's confidence it either there or it isn't, and that couldn't be further than the truth. Although it seems to be a belief of the coaching staff too.

If any fanbase knows the importance of confidence it should be this one, we've watched promising young QB's get dismantled until they struggle to complete bubble screens time and time again.

So we should wait until senior day of Lanning's career just in case he feels sad if we lose?

Echo earlier comments - he is not a delicate flower. He's a football player and there is nothing he wants more than to play. I don't think PTSD is an issue for 20 year-old football players.

Yeah, 20 year olds are known for their mental stability.

Why do you think Sam has regressed? His arm didn't get weaker, he hasn't learned less about the playbook, it's coaching and a lack of confidence.

Then he should sit with every other player that has been in losing games?

This is part of what mystifies people like me who've never played D-1 football...if the above is true then how is the reverse possible; how has Jim Harbaugh, a former QB been the overseer of a defense that has produced three straight shut-outs? Did he make the most genius DC hire ever or does he engage in the defensive game-planning? How is that guy doing it???

Leadership.

again, how on earth are you getting that from my post?

PTSD is hyperbole, but confidence is obviously an important factor that should be taken into consideration. After Baylor there are winnable games on the schedule. Waiting two games isn't the difference between finding out what ISU has in Lanning or not. And you're not asking him to keep up with the nations best two offenses in his first two starts.

Who wants to start up a kickstarter for Saban?

More like a kickstarter to be able to afford what we would have to pay Rhoades in a buyout. Not only that, but add in the SEZ, any coaches in the first year of a deal, plus the salary for the new head coach on top of it all....The 10 year contract is going to hurt a lot.

Ryens fastest 100 meter time is .3 of a second slower than Warrens best time. Ryen has put on over 20 pounds of muscle since then, so I'm sure his time isn't what it used to be. In their HS days, Warren would take that 40 and 100 but Ryen would have gotten the 200.

Line them up now for the 100 and Warren takes him, but I'll bet he wouldn't torch the kid.

Sure do feel bad for Richardson. The one game the kid wasn't mentally destroyed was his first game against KU years ago, and that was the best he has looked. I was defending him up until that first pass against TTU. What in the world?

We need a bulldog out there. Somebody who takes hold when the going gets tough. I think Lanning could fit that mold.

Last Saturday was one of the worst coaching and game preparation performances I have ever seen. We put up less resistance than UTEP and SAM HOUSTON FREAKING STATE. Completely awful. I've never seen so many defenders completely out of position. That's coaching! Those defensive players have shown they are capable athletes. Don't even get me started about the offensive game plan. Running the ball at will and what do we do? Continuously drop back to pass, go 3 and out, take 20 seconds off the clock and give Tech the ball right back to score on us in about 20 more seconds.

I am to the point where I just laugh to lighten the situation. I will be very, very disappointed if we don't run Warren 30 times Saturday and attempt less than 20 pass plays. K-State (as they always do) laid out the game plan for how to compete with TCU, though I'm sure our coaches will completely ignore that.

I see it now, Lanning goes in and they upset TCU saturday night. The meltdown begins, "Why wasn't Lanning starting from day 1."

Then a week later Baylor wins 98-0. Then back to "Fire Rhoads immediately"

Is that how optimism works?

For the record, I am in the camp of fire him now - just for his pure in game coaching this season. Finally had enough talent to compete physically in the first 5 games and he just made mistake after mistake to find ways to lose 3 of them.

I think it was easier last year when the team was physically incapable of competing - now you see flashes or games of "hmmmm....not too bad." Then 10 minutes later "WTF Rhoads, what are you doing?"

"Let's go have a Beer Summit and straighten this offense mess out."

Mess is smiling.

Can we just run the wishbone or flexbone at this point? Warren, Thomas, Ryen as slotbacks/rb; Lazard, Bundrage as WR and rotate in new blood when needed; Lanning as QB.

Honestly, why did Trever Ryen, our most explosive speed option, get three touches all game?
I don't understand why anyone thinks this drastic change in offense would do any good..... Just don't get it......
